Hi, iv got a punto 03 1.2 8v.

Recently (as of yesterday) It has been jerking like it is going to stall in 1st and second gear. Even when i rev it higher then normal it will still shake and jerk like mad.

Once im in 3rd and on the go its all fine. It seems only to be in those 2 gears when im driving off or in slow moving traffic. It happens more in 1st, it kinda jumps into 2nd jerks a little then goes.

Last couple of days we have had some quite bad rain dont know if this would effect something

Any ideas of what it could be? And how to fix?

Just noticed my air box was off the air intake, could this of caused it?

mine does this sometimes. the airbox being loose should be fixed to avoid anything nasty geting into engine (y)

Clean out feul system with somehing like redex, you might find this helps. i used BP ulimate feul and it helped with the jerking - i'm told this feul has some cleaning additives in it so again some feul cleaner might help(y)

If not i'd get it checked by garage. some garages will "check" your car for free so just go alone and if there not busy ask them to have a look(y)

Iv heard a few bad things happening to cars with redex, worth using?

Sorted my airbox out as soon as i noticed it.

Jerking isnt as bad since, infact only happens every now and again, but only very lighty. Like it kinda shudders into 1st and 2nd abit

Nope. I also filled up with some fuel with additives in it. Kinda helped abit, but its still their.

take your airbox off and just clean the throttle body a bit. then replace air box. see how that goes.

with the airbox being loose you may have collected some dirt in the throttle body. you will get the judder because airbox isnt connected. so think if theres dirt in you will also get same effect.
give it a try, then if that dont work check plugs leads etc. or maybe its time for air filter change?

Do you mean it shudders as you lift the clutch and start to pull away?

If so sounds like a clutch problem to me?

Well kinda when i hit the bite point and i am at my normal revs in 1st when im moving away then continues to shudder/jerk as i change into 2nd gear once i hit about 10-20mph its fine. Would of thought it would effect all my gears if its a clutch problem tho?

Will try this when i get the time to. But i did service my car about 1month or 2 ago new sparks, air and oil filter and oil etc. So i doubt i need a new air filter unless my new one is dodgy. Will also try to change my spark plug leads too they wasn't in that of a bad shape but i dont know when those was last changed so its worth a try i guess

If this is the case whats the recommend fix for this?

I'm no expert so get it checked at a garage.
Replacing it is the only fix.

Signs that it could be clutch related(Thrust bearings) start with:
1. Juddering in lower gears
2. Hard to select gears sometimes.
3. Loud noise when clutch is pressd
4. Complete clutch failure

New clutch i guess would be the fix if it is the bearing.
Do have that juddering, now you say it, sometimes my car is a pain when going into gear sometimes specially when cold. Not sure what is loud noise for a clutch but i would say i could hear it going down.

Guess id go ask garage first before buying a new clutch kit
