Ok, my boot seems to be jammed shut and i can't unlock it.

The lever by the drivers footwell was broken anyway, because the cable had come lose about 2 months ago. Not a problem i though, i can just use my key. But now the lock seems to have jammed. It was fine on Saturday morning, but this morning after lots of head scratching, WD40 and effort it won't open.

Anyone got any ideas?

No 'magician' jokes, please.

Re: no ideas?

I suspect this is a 'known problem', judging by the amount of muck the dealership sprays into my locks each time the car is serviced. It goes everywhere!

I don't know if you can get into the boot via the rear seats, and access the mechanism? I've never tried.

However, WD-40 isn't really a lubricant: it's a water dispersant (water dispersant, 40 days, is where the name comes from: an MoD specification, apparently).

It's a good idea to put a little LM grease onto your key, and work it into the lock: it's the best way to keep them freed up. You might want to try this, it's worth a shot and costs nothing!

re: jammed boot

Thanks Dug, i'll try that.

I can get into the boot via the rear seats, not easy climbing over amps and removing a sub.
I can get to the boot mechanism but can't figure out how to open the boot.

Oh for a Volvo style boot interior, boot release.

Jammed boot lock.

It's easy to open the boot from the inside, just slide a screwdriver or a teaspoon etc from left to right against the striker thingy (gold coloured if u can see it) and the boot will ping open hopefully. Well it does on 2001 SX anyway. I found this out when in my boot while overhauling the lock mechanism - it was impossible to close boot unless you slammed it really hard. Fiat said "they are all like that" It took me 30 mins to adjust the latch on the car and has been perfect ever since - as has any other Bravo boot I have tried. Fiat agents huh ?

in the subject of boots

I cannot help solve your boot problem, but i can add a bit of humour.
Being the thick gary boy that i am, i went and fitted some neon lights to shine onto my amps in the boot, then i thought, "are they turning off when the boot shuts". So not thinking much i went inside the boot and closed it shut (i did try to shut it on the catch, although it fully closed). Thus loocking myself inside the boot.
after trying to pick the lock, i resulted in dialing 999 from my mobile, and having to ask a police officer to open my boot for me. After about 1 hour in a cramped bravo boot, with two hot amps, and a subb drumming away at my head, a police officer directed by me opend the boot, with about four collegues standing laphing at me?

That should cheer up your day!!

And BTW the lights did turn off.

hahahah

why not let the back seats down to see into the boot?

hahaha

Your right, that didn't solve my problem but did give me a laugh.

I've tried moving the latch inside the boot but it still doesn't want to open, will take a better look this weekend when i've got some time.

Re: hahahah

well i relised i could of just closed down the seats, whilst sitting in the boot.
