At £750 no way, but you knew that, at £250 go for it. Uni courses mean 8 - 16 hour weeks from what I recall, or 2 hours a week if you're doing some sort of media arts courses.
Buy it you know it makes sense.
At £250, it's a possibility. But I would still need to spend money on the conversion as no doubt various parts would still need to be replaced. Two 21 year old Fiats don't bode well for finding 100% useable parts!
As for 8 - 16 hour weeks - I wish! I'm a nursing student so that means a LOT of hours as it is a very intense course. I will have to do 8 - 16 hour DAYS once I start doing placements in the second term

It's not one of those media courses, nor a Fine Art degree like a friend of mine is doing (he gets FOUR MONTHS SUMMER HOLIDAY

) I'll get nothing like that as I have to complete so many hours in practice placement to get my professional registration and licence to practice. That is in effect 50% of the course.
Damn, I knew I should have done a mechanics degree and could have my turbo project as my final submission
Not again

You seem to be a permanent student!
I started my college course in September 2005 and finished last summer! Had my 'gap 6 months' then starting my three year degree course in a weeks time
As for the car, sounds nice with the 'blingy' wheels

but I think you are probably more after the complete, original Uno Turbo experience like mine. As you already have two cars, I'd say fix up the Punto and shift that before you buy into an Uno Turbo project. Also I've yet to meet a 'wealthy' returned-student, so you'll be wanting to keep your finances under control?
Cheers,
-Alex
The 'blingy' wheels

yuck

would go straight up on Ebay... And yes, I want the complete original turbo experience! There was enough on the car to give that.
Reason I'd keep the Punto is that we're talking a turbo re-shell here. The turbo that me and Jai went to see was NOT worth putting back on the road. Too much needed doing to it. Therefore I'd need to get the Punto back on the road to be my daily transport, take my 45S off the road and then re-shell the £250 turbo into it. I'd also expect the conversion to take a while, even more so as I'd be doing it outside on a driveway so I'd be at the mercy of the elements. I'd need a fair old while to do a proper job as well as being a full time student!
And yes, the finances are a big issue. £250 doesn't sound much but it is a lot to me at the moment, plus it will cost more as anyone having done a similar project will know. My student bursary will be quite good compared with the grants most students get but I still won't be rich.
Seriously Chas right, keep haggling him and if he says no, say it's you're loss and walk away, then come back again with the same price a week or so later, it isn't going to sell to just anyone is it. I'd do that, would love an UT and say it all the time.
That's kind of my philosophy Gaz. I'm not desperate to buy, but that garage will have a hard time shifting the car unless they know the right places to put it up for sale (which by the sounds of it they don't.) They need it gone to clear a space on their forecourt, I don't really need it on my drive. Time to play the waiting game...
there was an engine and all the bits on ebay other day for a lot less than 750
One went tonight for £140. BUT, you need so much more than just the engine for the turbo conversion. The good thing about the car we're looking at is that about 95% of the original turbo stuff is present and correct. There's enough there to do a full conversion on my 45S
Anyway, I'm going to wait a few more days and leave it in the hands of fate. If it goes, it goes. If it's still there when I ring up then then I'll know they are going to struggle shifting it. Just maybe I can get it for a good price, though my sensible head is saying 'no' to taking on a project like this in view of being a full time student again. Either that or Jai will nab it!
Time will tell!
Chas
