Hi,
I've been following this Forum for some time now. But I would like some explanations of terms frequently used.

What is the "J" in JTD?
What does a "55 plate" tell you about the age of the vehicle?
What is all this about different colour keys. My two are black, and operate the immobiliser and start the engine.

Hi Peter, J is for jet as in uniJet Turbo Diesel. Check wikipedia site on common rail diesel.
Cheers, Ray

Hi Peter here's some info:
JTD (uniJet Turbo Diesel) is Fiat Group's term for the first common rail turbodiesel ( the 2.0, 2.3, 2.8 litre JTD ) engine range. The MultiJet name is used in the second generation JTD common rail units (new X250 2.3 & 3.0 Litre). Most of the Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia range have options of JTD engines.

I think the coloured keys are used on an earlier model Ducato, pre 2002 models if anybody knows different please elaborate.
The Masterkey is the red one.
The RED KEY opens the ECU memory to store new blue keys & the current codes may risk being erased if you are using the red key to operate the vehicle.
To program
Use the red key to turn the ignition on until light goes out and turn off again
first blue key turn ignition on until light goes out and turn off again
second blue keyturn ignition on until light goes out and turn off again
then red keyturn ignition on until light goes out and turn off again
then wait between 4 and 9 seconds turn the red key on again and
the light should stay on instead of going out, this means it has accepted the programing if it goes out at this point keep turning it on and off until it stays on then turn it off and wait 15 seconds and try the blue keys.

"55 plates"
The system for "personalised" vehicle registration plates in the UK?
It means the car was first registered on or after 1st September 2005, but before 1st March 2006.
Similarily an 05 plate means the car was first registerred on or after march 2005 but before september 2005.
Therefore for any given year, there are two differing registration numbers, for example in 2006 this would be an 06 plate and a 56 plate.(Also the 55 plate from January to March) ??????
The numbers on a reg plate could for example be, SG52 OSF. The SG signifies the area in which the car was registerred, (the SG code i think is for glasgow) the 52 therefore means the car was registered after september 2002and the last 3 letters identify the car from other cars. see link below.

Thanks for the explanations (y). Has been a bit of a puzzle for a while.
Glad the colour key business no longer used!
