Oh dear. A1 closed this morning so off we go on a little diverson. Get stuck in a right load of traffic and "Hmmm, temp gauge is a bit high, still getting higher, why isn't the fan kicking in? Oh bugger!".
So, sat there for 90 mins waiting for her to cool down, move off and she's fine while going along and at first, is getting cooler (had the heaters on full blast at this point - Phew! That's some hot heaters!
So, that'll be Shabash! off to see uncle Rog for not just a service but investigations into the fan. Guessing it's just the fan as the water pump must be OK for the temp to go down and it was changed very recently.
Ho hum. :(

you don`t seem to have much luck with her at the mo there Oz, hopefully Rog wil be able to help you out with that one mate :)

She's getting old mate. 10 years old next March and nearly 100k on the clock. We also have to consider that (grabs Epping Forest amount of wood) she's been relaible for so long she's allowed these little tantrums.
Bless her. :)

Happened in my 1.2. Great fun sat in traffic with blowers on full heat on the Barton Bridge of the M60 in the middle of summer.

Hope its sorted soon Al.

maybe the thermo switch has gone down?
i would have thought somthing like that would have been tied into the ecu so the fault light came on..but maybe not?.

i have had the total opposite situation happen to me..i drove all the way to tommy k's to pick some skirts up with a thermostat stuck open so the engine would not heat up to normal temp..engine light was on though and still did legal speed's...ish;)
i just didnt have the time to change it,battered fuel though.and its was a "ducks for cover" 1.4

Hope you get it sorted soon Oz.

I do wish you'd given it a slightly different title, cos I've now got those song lyrics going round in my head :(

thats bad luck mate, hopefully uncle Rog doesnt find anything big and its just a lil more TLC needed for the ol girl :)

Mine is STILL doing the exact same thing. Not good! Someone else on here had it too and found it to be the wiring between the fan and relay. Have cleaned all contacts up but no joy. Should get the multi meter out really but cant be bothered when it's raining the whole time :(

Well I've managed to get her home OK with a mate following just in case. I think this is the only time I've been glad the thermostat is stuck open as it helped to keep her cool on the way home.
She's tucked up now until next week as the boss told to me to get a hire car as soon as I got into work (over 2 hours late - he's a diamond, bless him) so I've now got a black SEAT Leon sitting outside to take the strain off poor ol' Shabash! (very nice it is too. ;)).
I was already taking a week off next week so I'll get her down to Rog (hopefully Tuesday) for some TLC and a full service ready for her hibernation. Might just get the thermostat, aibox and new MAF fitted that I've had sittng around for god knows how long. ;)

Wellif you are of next week - tripto Wigan at the back end to test her out? I'm off Thurs/Fri :)

if you do get her to rog tuesday I may well pop up and see you, its not like i have much better to do during my days now...

i had a similar panic fit recently then i discovered it was just a dippy sensor and turning the ign off and back on would put the temp back to normal for a short period.

hopefully something just as easy for you :)

As nice as that would be Davey-boy I don't think Rog would appreciate me kicking him up on a Bank Holiday Monday.
Will probably be Tuesday but need to call Rog to confirm first. He might be having a long weekend.
@ Mr Wim - Sounds like a plan me ol' fruit. Will call you about it.
@ Andy - Feel free mate. Always a pleasure, never a chore. (Just have to keep you away from the beers, you lightweight!!). :)
@ Ry - Thanks for the suggestion chap but tried that several times thinking it might be the clocks playing up. Unfortunately it isn't. Fan is definitely not kicking in but I'm sure Uncle Rog will work it out.

Just to note this SEAT Leon is really good. Granted it's the wrong engine (Petrol) but it's a really good car.
Oh dear.

re

I was going to say you'd better be careful getting into something VAG you might not want to give it up!

I love my VRS now!

Always had a soft spot for the Leon tbh. Old one was better imho but this is quite good, especially considering the Golf and (dare I say it) Skodas I have driven recently have been so bloody awful (sorry Allan).
