General Issue when starting car

My 2007 mjet 150 Bravo occasionally doesn't start properly. It turns over and seems to misfire a bit before starting, however I get an error on the dash about radiator temperature and the temp gauge goes to the max. If I switch the engine off and then restart there's no issues.

Happens every so often regardless of external temperature or if the car has been running immediately before.

Also, a question to others with the same spec as mine, how smooth is the power on yours? When under acceleration the car has subtle flat spots in it's acceleration.. Is this normal?

Happens to me too. most of the time it happens when I don't leave the glow plugs enough time to heat up before starting. It also helps to turn off everything electric before starting (radio, A/C etc..)
