i think i remember hearing something about an 997cc cinq.. but was only in poland or someother far away land... but either way.. 83mpg is i think.. a little far fetched!

there was a 704cc cinq, and there are 903cc, and 899cc, and 1108cc - but fiat didnt make any others.

Converted to UK gallons = 6.47 gallons (http://www.metric-conversions.org/volume/liters-to-uk-gallons.htm)
500 miles divided by 6.47 gallons = 77.28 mpg

So he's out by 6mpg, plus I seriously doubt he'd get 500 miles to a tank unless we're talking an LPG conversion. My 999cc Uno would do 400 miles at a push on a full tank, and that was with a bigger tank.

Plus:

Cinq fuel tank capacity = 35 litres
To fill a Cinq fuel tank from empty to full: 35 x £1.02 = £35.70 which is £5.70 more than his £30. Plus we all know how inaccurate Cinq fuel gauges are.
