I have lost my pipe which runs from the heatshield outtake near the exhuast to the air filter at the left hand side on a MK1 1299cc.

What does it do?? Is this why i have problems when starting cold???

its there to give the engine warm air when you drive your first few miles in the cold, shouldnt affect cold start up as the manifold would be cold anyway but you should replace it to help with winter running.is it like flexi aluminium tubing? if so its cheap/easy to replace

Every Uno I have seen has this missing! I have one on mine that doesn't quite fit, about 1.5cm oversized diametre and my uno 999 injection doesn't run well in the cold for the first few mins, maybe I should try getting one that fits exactly and it might help but i don't think it will much.

You can't run your Uno 999 injection in cold, because your injection don't work perfectly. See how work sucker, that helps to increase RPMs in cold start, and the temperature sensor in thermostat

I am not too bothered. I just need to go outside two mins early and rev it, I would say about 1500RPM for a few mins. It depends aswell, some days it can be 0 degrees celcius yet it runs with headlights, fan heater and radio on straight from start. Other days - i think maybe when it is slightly damp - it does need the 2 mins running. Otherwise it's fine when I am moving in gear but then if i put down the clutch and the rev's drop it stalls which is kinda worrying but I cope!

I don't quite understand what you are saying to improve it?
Thanks for your reply.

Cheers so really its needed

I brought 1 ages a ago a replacement wouldnt strech right and i ripped it. Would a fiat dealer get orginal part

It's most useful on carburetted models. The injection Unos don't need it. It helps defrosting the carburettor, and prevents it from icing.

Bushboy, we have the same engine and as I said above, I have seen 4 of these engines during my time and only 1 had an attempt at being this. It goes between the exhaust bit on the front up to the bottom of the black air box where the air filter is located. If you haven't got one and want to know exactly where it goes, feel under that plastic box at the front and you will feel a hole, dimatre approx 4-5cm and then see the other hole it goes onto about 15 cm below it. It isn't necessary but I think the general concensus is that it improves cold running.

ahhh haarrr... right yeah, u mean on the exhaust manifold at the front of the fire engine? yeah, on mine theres a hole where it looks like something should go but theres isnt anything. I dont have the original air filter so if I was to run some ducting from it and upto the air filter I do have do you think this will give the same result. My uno doesnt really like running in the cold much.

Might be that, I am no mechanic however! I am sure you can work that out from my basic wording of the engine. I would say it should have the same result but I am sure someone can give you a better idea. Even with mine on (even if it doesn't fit perfectly) mine still doesn't like the cold much unfortunately, I just run it for a min or two with a few rev's and then it is ok. It's not like we get sub zero temps very often in the UK.

Don't involve a Fiat dealer or anybody else to get the pipe for you. You can buy such pipe really cheap in a auto part shop, just choose the diameter and then you cut the length you want. I bought one meter för 4 euros. They were available in like 25, 30, 35m.m etc,

bushboy are you running a K&N?the reason i ask is that on a standard filter with the hot/cold intakes this is usually dictated by a manual/automatic flap in the filter intake that chooses what air hot/cold the engine recieves dictated by outside temp.if you have a K&n style filter then it has no way of diserning what air it takes so the warm air just warm the charge air and is hindering performance ;)

Possibly poor fit or insulation on the plug leads letting moisture in: the HT will take the easiest route to earth, which may be through the damp rather than across the plug gap.
A rich mixture (under load) is lower impedance across the plug gap than a lean mixture, so you get misfire under load, but tickover not too bad.

When it warms up a bit the moisture goes away - so normal running, until it gets damp again.

YMMV

I will check the fitting of the plug leads etc. when my exams are over after this week. Could agree with what you are saying considering it seems to more often happen when it is wet. It has no problems running when rev's are increased, no misfiring etc. just prone to stalling on certain days when i need to run it for a for minutes first.

Rgds and thanks for your help

why not see if a GSR kit will fit, there foced induction gives more(claimed) power to a cinq 1108 than a 1200cc conversion but thats over £200[:0] but there standard kits are well recommended
