I just wanted to check before i nip out and buy a new cable. ok here goes

i have a 4awg earth cable and have had it for around 12 months working perfect, in the last 2 months my car ICe has been acting very strange, speakers cutting in and out every few min etc

and recently i have noticed that when i open my car door the ice is fine, but when i close the front door the front speakers cut out !!! if i open and close it about a dozen times then it works proporly but very inconvienient.

when fitting my leather last week the door cards were removed and i double checked all the wires and made sure there were no snags or twists etc and there wasent any.

now up untill last week this was the only problem, NOW i am getting serioustly loud ammounts of alternator whine, and the door open/close thing is no longer an issue.

but the altinator whine is so bad that when i accelerate it cuts out the music.

so is a new earth cable needed ? bear in mind my car has been earted at the same spot now for 18months and has been fine so i am assumeing the earting point is good. and i have noticed a slight discolouration of the cable? is this normal? my cable is clear plastic with silver cable in the middle but the silver cable has gone a bit yellowish

When I had whining in mine it was to do with the earth. With the wiring fading, sounds like new cable. That's what I'd try, if not a Ground Loop Isolator maybe?
