Is this possible?! ADVICE NEEDED!

Hi Guys. So as a few of you know, I have recently installed a remote central locking kit from my car.
Now, how this works due to it being universal is - the solenoid goes up and down - which attaches to the original door unlocking rod, it attaches next to it so when the solenoid moves, the original shaft goes up and down with it therefore unlocking the door.
Now, on mk1s on the door frame attached to the car is the little push button which actuates the interior light, it's a little small rubber push button, so when the door is open the light comes on.
And if I was to lock my doors whilst they were open, the solenoid would actuate but due to the lock not being able to be pressed down when door is open, resulting in the unlocking rod from the universal Central Locking kit sliding off the original rod and thus leaving the kit useless!

Now, my plan is to somehow wire up the central locking kit to the rubber push button so that it shuts off the power when my doors are open and not allowing me to lock the door, preventing me from temporarily breaking the system.
However, as the way it works, when the door is open it allows a circuit but I'm wanting it the other way around, when the door is open, the circuit cuts out.
I know someone will come up with an idea on how I can get around this.

If you don't understand what I mean please ask.

Thanks in advance of any responses

Hmm, i fitted a universal kit to my old punto. Basically because you can't push the button down on the door, as long as all of the clamps that join the rods together are tight, they wont slip of or anything, it just pops back to the unlock position again. I did this so many times on mine. Never had a problem with it tho so the central locking motors must be built to cater for it. Is your question a "what if" question or have you had trouble with it?

Thanks for the reply mate. Especially good that you have dealt with this before.
So you think they won't slip? Yeh, I have only just installed them and wanted to do this as a "just in case" I happened to do it if you get me.
Do you think I would be best to take my door cards off and put some loctite on the screws to make extra sure?
Thanks for the reply

no shouldnt be any need to loctite them aslong as you tightened them suffiecently 1st time round.

all you need to do is not lock it when doors open lol you wouldnt try when you didnt have central locking lol :p

My mk2 8v was the same i installed universal remote central locking and locking when the doors aren't shut can be done accidentally if the door looks closed but isn't shut right.

However mine never slipped and I only used the screws provided. As long as they are screwed in tight and in the right place then there is no problem(y)

Exactly that :) I did mine in a hurry. Was outside in the cold and rain at 1am doing it so you can imagine how rushed it was. I didnt tighten the screws REALLY tight, just nipped them up really...No harm in tightening them up really well tho just to be safe :) Worst case scenario is that you have to take the door card off again and clamp the rods on so why not give it a go :D Just out of interest, which kit did you buy? I had this one http://www.hawkcaralarm.com/4door remote locking kit.html And for the price wasn't expecting much, but it did the job! I dicovered that they're all the same. They sell the same kit at maplins, slightly more expensive and under a different name, but all the bits are the same...Just give it a go with the door open i say, at least then you'll know :)

Thats the kit I had, but I got it through thier eBay shop as it was cheaper, worked out about £17.50 delivered.

That could get annoying though......

Mine had 2 master and two slaves because it was a 5 door punto which meant the central locking worked off BOTH key holes (passenger and drivers side) It also had room and two spare buttons on my phob for me to pop in the chip from my alarm system, so my alarm and locks were on the same phob.

Just a quick question, i already have central locking on my punto, i.e when i push a button down, or use the key in either door it locks them both.
So would i be correct in assuming that i would only need a solonoid on say the drivers door and not the passenger, cos if the kit simulates the button being pressed then the passenger door would lock as well?

and where do you draw the power from?
seems like a cheap and easy mod to get keyfob locking on my car :D

Hi. You can get Kits on eBay that turn your central locking to remote CL. It is just a simple box that recieves infrared signals which goes on your original CL ecu

Top mod karbine! Just ordered the kit you ordered, Should be fun fitting it, as said above, where did you draw the power from?

I would prefer if the kit had the double flash indication that it is unlocked and locked. :( I wonder if i can relay it up to the hazard warning lights some how. Maybe Mikesalt will know a way?

I drew power from my cigarette lighter as it is not plugged in and is a constant live.
Let me know how you get on Mufc and any help at all just ask and I'll try my best to help out.

Dan
