I took my Multipla JTD 1.9 (Old Shape, 2004) into my local garage to have the timing belt replaced (I've done 80k). When I got the car back I'd only driven ten miles before the alternator/airconditioning belt came off. In doing so it shredded the inside edge (I think it was the inside) but the belt didn't break.
I took it back and they immediately replaced the belt, no problems. I drove the vehicle approximately half a mile and I heard the belt shredding again.
Took it back and left it overnight. Next day they say that the tensioner pulley is damaged and they're going to fit a new one. The old pulley seems a little worn but I'm not convinced it would have gone independently, i.e. without damage being caused when the timing belt was replaced.
As I understand it, this belt and the pulleys etc would have had to be removed to get at the timing belt and the likelihood is that any damage would have been caused at that time - or maybe not.
Anyone got any thoughts on this please?
Cheers
