Is My Gearbox Going?

Recently ive been struggling to get into gear, particularly 3rd & reverse. Is this a sign my gear box needs replacing?

Ive got a 2000 hlx 1.6, its only done 33k however i did learn to drive in it, so the clutch & gearbox has taken some punishment. Its due an MOT in Feb..

Any advice will be appreciated.

Sounds like the same thing I had. The clutch isnt disengaging right. New clutch.

Yes I would think your gonna need a new gear box, I had a similar thing a while back, then mine packed in altogether. Apparently it is a common fault that the gearboxes on our cars have. Buying a brand new one can be very expensive so it's often worth while looking at buying 2nd hand. www.findapart.com is great I use this site all the time when i need to replace a part on my car. It send emails to garages all over the uk and if they have the part they will email you back with a price. Good luck

well from my experience, Fiat gearboxes don't like reverse too much anyway, espicially if its cold and the choke is on, mine also goes into third with a shove but realised i was lifting the clutch too quickly.
because of 1st - 2nd is a simple push down, and 3rd-4th is a simple push down too.

do you have the same problem going from 4th - 3rd?

I have something similar, its sometimes hard to go to 2nd from 1st when it's cold, sometimes crunches on reverse etc etc,... mines been like ages, too skint to do anything about, i dont think its getting any worse so im going to leave it.

Crunching reverse is a total non issue. There is no synchro on reverse. It is no indication of the health of the gearbox as they can crunch from day 1.
