Hi,

I have a 2008 Bravo T-jet 150. When I drive the car a bit hard or if the car has been driven and the cra is all warmed up It seems to love to backfire. 2nd & 3rd is when I hear it most.

I heard or read somewhere it is not a good sign that the car is doing that? It started after removing my original muffler and replacing with a straight through much smaller muffler. Oh I also removed the centre resonator under the cabin.

If your a tech head please give some advice. Do I need to change the muffler? Is it normal for it to do so?

When I accelerate hard and change gears from e.g 2nd to 3rd it does a bang but it can be passed as a BIG pop noise too...

It sounds like your car isn't actually backfiring, this is where a valve sticks or the timing is out thus igniting the fuel in the induction system.

Since you have changed the exhaust what sounds more likley is unburnt exhaust gasses ingniting in the hot exhaust on the over run. This is common on race cars.

Does thins happen when you first drive the car in morning when the exhaust is cold?
