i understand we have to expect there to be tappety noise sorry for the mislead topin name.

Just asking, how we could reduce the noise to the minimum.

Has anyone heard how an new 899 cinq sound like ????

Would be good to know.

Thanks

Hi

I have done many of these cars and I have explained how to do it before but noone seemed to take any notice. This will only work if the tappets are the hyraulic type which I have had every time myself.

To do it properly you need to remove the rocker assembly complete, remove tappets and inspect for damage and replace if required, fill each tappet with oil(some will be empty), replace and preload the tappets by 1 1/4 turns in the correct sequence.

Sometimes you will find a 'spongy' tappet and this will need to be replaced as it will not give the correct preload and will be noisy no matter what you do. It will also make the engine run rough due to not opening the valves sufficiently.

I have done this at least 10 times and it has worked all but once. The one time it didn't work we found the noise to be something more terminal than just the tappets.

Rich.
