Been looking into this earlier for the missus' dad, he has an Ipod and uses windows XP. Something strange is happening where when the Ipod is plugged into the PC, it is recognised by windows as a USB device and shows on the unplug or ejct hardware option, but not in my computer or ITunes. I have gone through apples help docs on the net as it looks according to them to be a conflict. I have changed allsorts and followed their advice but its not working.

I realise this is more likely to be the PC than the Ipod itself. Anyone any ideas?

try this?

I had same problem and may have a solution. This first happened to me just after I changed my ipod preferences in iTunes to manually allow me to "manage songs and playlists".

This is what I tried.
I set my ipod in disk mode. and now Itunes sees my pod and so does my computer!!! http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
and like magic the card is now recognized. I just set my itunes preferences back to automatic. BTW (I have a adaptec usb2 card. 4g-20 ipod.)
