Just got a 4G iPod and want to hook it up to the car stereo. My current head-unit is a Sony MPX30 although I might put the old Grundig back in and just use the pod. I've seen the Dension IceLink lead but it seems a bit pricey at £100+. Is there a way to fool the head unit in to thinking a cd changer is attached and then use the cd changer audio inputs?

Yes you can use these, its not as good as the Dension kit which I have though and its illegal (yeah so what!)
I changed the head unit as well as the Dension kit and the damn thing works really well. I have also fitted one of these into an Audi BOSE system.
It is a pain in the ass using the iPod though while you are on the move, the screen is not big enough to be able to glance at it though and when you have 500+ CD's on it as I have on my 20G jobbie its a bit of a pain to negotiate.

Yeah I know about the iTrip, but wanted a wired solution. No super-dooper mimic CD changer devices?

Nige - yeah scrolling can be a bit dangerous. The screen knida blurs as you whizz the wheel around. Just as well I've only got about 7Gb on there.

While we are on the subject of mp3's... arent there any car stereos that play mp3s instead of having to plug in an mp3 player?

Nah...i dont think that we are talking about the same thing coz that looks to cheap....what i meant is car stereo which functions like the iPod with a harddisk of 20gb...no cd, no md...just a harddisk.

Maybe you could direct me to some models?

Now i get ya...:)

These are very expensive at the moment...

10 GB Hard Disc Drive With Music Server Play/Recording + 128 MB Capacity MagicGate Memory Stick Player.

Its alot cheaper to get a 6 disc MP3 changer (the alpine one is £165), this could 4.8gb, granted not as much as the Pioneer above, but much cheaper...

Holy moly now that is quite expensive but i am sure that the price will drop very soon coz that is the future in music. Since I bought my Creative Jukebox mp3 30gb I have forgotten all other kinds of music formats, but it is kind of tricky and a hassle to use this portable in the car i must say.
