Hi guys, this is pretty much 1 for the iphone geeks :D

basically i have purchased a brand new 4 month old 3gs 8gb but is locked on Orange and on the 4.2.1 update to which the buyer never told me about (just said 4 month old etc). Is it possible to downgrade it,if so how do you do it step by step?

I have read on the tube and googling on forums you can,i download the 4.0.2 software that it should have been on and when connected to itunes and hold shift and click restore, nothing shows up.i cant find the ipsw file.Even tho i rename it at the end .ipsw as told to just nothing shows up whereas when i see it done on youtube the file is there

Does anyone know wether there will be a unthered jailbrake for it,if so i may aswell wait rather than try sell it on and buy one on 02.

Cheers for help and any replies
Mike

I know a guy thats got a 3gs and hes just jailbroke his and he regrets it so much, he lost all his contacts and everything on his phone and now it runs really bad, slow and uses loads of battery now so wouldnt suggest that at all tbh

Orange was the first thing i thought of.I phoned them on monday and on wednesday they said they wouldnt unlock it as im not the person who bought the phone.so unless i got the original buyer to ring up and confirm few details theres nothing i could do. So i got on the phone to the seler who said 'yes i will dont worry' and didnt hear anythin back,so my thoughts are they had purchased it elsewhere and tried to unlock it and couldnt so decided to sell it on.

I didnt want to go down the jailbrake route but at the mo i have no choice.Well i could sell it on but i dont want to do that as its for a xmas prezzie and at the mo the missus cant use it,its been driving me mad all week :bang:

So glad you mentioned that - thanks, I was thinking of jail breaking my 3GS, but I somehow don't think I will now.

Think I'll just sit out for another 14 months with it and then see what's available then.
