as title.I bought an iphone 3g 16gb as faulty off the bay.The orange warning triangle with the temperature is stuck on main screen after start up.Is there any way of sorting this out? i thought itd be fine to use,but it has been in thre post for 24hours and it still showed the message when i turned it on,stone cold. :(

Err... I got an iPhone 3G 8Gb and I would say.... if you can't get this sorted, don't buy another 3G. Get either a 3Gs or iPhone 4 because many apps today don't like to keep the compatibility of the standard 3G handsets. Also, some apps are just for 3Gs and iPhone 4!
Sorry I cant help with your faulty phone, but atleast I can advise what to do next time

bought it for the gf cheaply (its in immaculate cond complete with box and acc's) so apps and all that isnt really an issue as she just wanted the phone lol Was intending to get a 3gs as they're a better and faster phone but they are still expensive nowadays :(

i have installed iTunes and was hoping to restore it and then update it to a newer version see if that would work etc So plugged it into the comp but the comp cant detect the phone as i cant get it on,just emergency calls only

thats the thing,i cant get it to connect to itunes. When i do manage to get the phone on and connect for that split second,it goes off again and back to the warning screen

ive given it a neighbour see what he can do with it for now.

Cheers
Mike

Have you tried the following.

Plug one end of the cord into your phone and the other in your computer
Remove the cord in your computer, leaving the cord in the phone still plugged in
Hold both the home button and on/off button on the phone
Once the screen turns off, let go of the on/off button but continue holding the home button
Plug in the other end of the cord in your computer while still holding the home button on the phone
Once the apple logo appears, continue holding until you see the plug into iTunes screen on your phone
Click restore

I don't know if it will work, worked when mine froze, so worth a try!

i havnt tried anything apart from trying to update it on itunes.,havnt had an iphone before so dont know how to restore or use them etc.

but thanks for all that ill try it tomorrow when i get it back if my mate hasnt sorted it.(y)

I cant remember what this mode is called - but this mode boots the iPhone to the point where it can be read by a PC and then stops booting and holds it there. I use it all the time to fix iPhones where people have tried to jailbreak them and 'bricked' it.

However, i beleive the battery is fried and getting way tooooo hot hence the warning. You could technically send it off as i believe Apple has a lifetime warranty on their batteries because they can't (or shouldnt) be replaced by the user.

Thanks for the replies..When i get my phone back tonigt i will try and restore it,thats if itll work.(well thats if my neighbour hasnt tried already)
I have been on the phone to apple this morning and this guy said the same about resetting it and took me through the steps,He also gave me liverpool 1's number to book an appointment as theyre closer to get the phone fixed. But i rang them up first to get a price on how much it would cost, the guy on the phone (in the shop) said it'd be £139 for a replacement phone with it being out of warranty :(

If i cant get it to reset tonight then ill have to put it back up for grabs as its only a 3g and i got it for just over £100 so + 139 is £239. and plus fuel there and back £260 :( Now you can get an 3gs for that. But saying that you can still buy perfectly working 3g's in immaculate cond for £200.So even if i got a new phone and sold it on id still be on a loss.

Ill report back tonight see if i have any luck with it.

Thanks for the advice
Mike

Just got my phoone back and i tried that exactly and it worked.the itunes logo came up so i clicked restore and It resetted itself and installed the new io4 software and it has recognised my network etc Then when it was done,it disconnected itself and then i got that warning sign again on the phone.but it wont stay put,it keeps going back to the warning sign :(
when it does come on for the split second,it shows my battery as half full

shall i buy a new battery do ya think before i put it back up for grabs? as on the forums people are saying the temp sensor is foobard.

Soz man, Its been a hard road. If it helps... I smashed my previous phone Nokia N95 which had loads of personal pics and vid's that I'll never get back. Its just time to move on lol

lol im not bothered tbh as i havnt got anything on it,i couldnt get the phone to come on ha

but saying that, when i got mugged my n95 8gb was the first thing they grabbed and that had **** loads'a pics inc personal pics and vids ;) which i never got round to putting on my comp :(

Not to worry, ill have to get snap happy when i get a new phone :D

Still think the battery is the culpret. You should keep it as a test phone and try and fix it, cause trust me the amount of iPhones you can get on ebay that are easy to fix is quite cool.

the reserve at £100 has been met now so its going.I thought about keeping it and getting a bn battery but in the end i thought sod it,just incase it isnt the battery. On the apple forums they are saying its the sensor and something inside is setting it off,so it could be a very tiny bit of moisture etc

but your right, there are loads of faulty iphones going cheap.and the fact that apple replace the phone for £139 you will still get a bargain.

I decided against going to an apple shop and get a new phone as i have other things to fork out for this month.

Cheers anyway
Mike
