basically... while ive been away over the weekend my dads moved the wirless router outside to the new office... which is through about 4 doors and about 10 metres behind where the old one was in our house....

before i used to be sat in my room in a straight line from it i was probably only 5metres at most... or it could bounce of internal walls and reach me within say a 15 metres walking distance up stairs and corridoors etc....

the new office is a good 15 metres away from my bedroom in a straight line and it has to bounce of several walls etc and probably travel a good 25 metres bouncing to get to me

my laptop wont pick it up in my bedroom.. and it will only just pick it up where i am now in the family room (where the old router used to be)... in the kitchen i get a good signal.

my sisters laptop picks it up fine in her room which is directly above the office more a less at the back of the house.

if i were to buy perhaps a usb wireless network device and attach it to my laptop would it pick up the signal better?

my normal laptop wireless picks up a very weak signal just at the top of the stairs and it is a few years old toshiba thing lol

Does the router have an external, detachable aerial? I had a similar issue at my folks when I lived there, bought a longer, stronger aerial which allowed the signal to travel further. Other than that, you could try some of those things that you plug into the power socket that you can use to plug in a network cable.

i will have a look when i can get into the office (when theres no drying paint) and see what i can find.... im waiting till my dad goes out at somepoint so i can mess with everything tbh

Expand the range of your wireless network! Wireless Range Extenders offer an easy way to increase the effective coverage of your wireless network.
Unlike adding a traditional access point to your network to expand wireless coverage, wireless range extenders do not need to be connected to the network by a data cable. Just put the wireless range extender within range of your main access point or wireless router, and it "bounces" the signals out to remote wireless devices.
The "relay station" or "wireless repeater" approach saves wiring costs and helps to build wireless infrastructure by driving signals into even those distant, reflective corners and hard-to-reach areas where wireless coverage is spotty or cabling is impractical. The wireless range extender is perfect to help cover large areas in multi-storey homes, warehouse environments, public spaces, wireless "Hot Spots" and outdoor venues - anywhere where you need extra coverage for your wireless network.
So, expand your wireless network's effective coverage the easy way, with wireless range extenders.

As above!

:yeahthat:

You should get a Wireless Access Point.

You use this to connect to the Wireless Router - and then instead of connecting directly to the router, you connect to the access point - which in turn connects to the router if that makes sense.

Put it somewhere in the middle of the connection and your signal will be fine.
