Hi,

Having some work done to the 1.4 Sport soon and the back box will need to be replaced before its MOT later in the year. I'd like to replace it with something a little more "interesting" but not too in-yer-face. Perhaps something with a little bit more Italian burble and not sticking out like a foot of drainpipe.

Any recommendations? Maybe you have something available? Stainless would be nice...

Thanks,

Ant

You could get Magneti Marelli back box that will mate to standard system is SS or you could maybe get a custom one made. DotShop Italy are a good supplier of Magneti Marelli parts and will ship to UK. They take paypal too.
Longlife also make custom exhausts and have dealers across the UK. Motormech in B'ham are very good.

Interesting. One "for" the MM and one "against". I found the Ragazzon back box with oval tailpipe which looks good and is a straightforward replacement. But more than £200... plus fitting...

I'm in north of Scotland by the way if anyone knows of local suppliers to me.

Thanks!

Also, you forgot to mention the swaged end of the MM back box/pipe wasn't swaged correctly and you had to take it to an exhaust maker to open it up so it was circular.

My MM exhaust was fine.. Fitted perfectly. It was another member who had to take it somewhere to have the bore of the swaged end opened up a bit.

The MM exhausts have terrible welds from my experience

Yep welds are blobby. Good job they are under the car.
Tail pipes are beautifully finished. My neighbour sold his Raggazon and bought a MM when he saw mine.
The Raggazon is not without issues either. The hanger was miles out of line and required adjustment to get the tailpipes to sit correctly.

Ahh, wasn't you, it was your friend:

Still, my statement stands. On the basis of anecdotal evidence, the production engineering of MM aftermarket parts is ****e.

Welds penetrate through pipe you know? If they're blobby on the outside, they are likely to be the same through the pipe, and thus causing restriction. From the pics I've seen, the bends are **** press bends too.

You are right of course... I just have a soft spot for MM.
I think it's the Fiat heritage thing.

Honestly, I went for the MM exhaust for the 'heritage' and the fact that the tail pipes were not over large (like most are these days) and they were not rolled, and that they were slash cut. I just really liked the look if them. Look very oem compared to other aftermarket pipes.
Had no issues fitting mine and the one on the wife's 1.2.
The only criticism I could level at MM is the blobby welds.
Ok my friend had to take his to have the pipe swage expanded slightly. Cost a fiver and took then mins.
Price was much less than Raggazon.
