ok, when buying a car i have been given £1,500 towards it from:
A) sale of moped (current transport)
B) parents giving rest to make to £1,500,

im also saving up so i have the cash for a cinq sporting rather than some crappy metro or fiesta (no offence metro/fiesta owners)

but in this trip im currently looking at a total of about £2,200 (if i save well in next few months while test rolls by) of which im guessing the car will take about £1000-£1200 and leaving £1000ish for insurance, but just got a quote off tesco (third party fire and theft) and came up with a £1,700 quote ;) anyone got any ideas where else to look for cheap quotes (am 17/m) and also looking to do the pass plus possibly (not option on tesco)

anyway,

look forward to advice :D

pass pluss is a rip off you only get discount off your first years insurance and the discount you get is about the same as what the pass pluss costs so you don't gain anything, best to insure car in one of your parents names for a couply of years until you are older, insurance usaly goes down when you have held full licence for over three years and/or are over 21.
Try car auctions for a cinq I saw one at local auction yellow cinq sporting r reg £900.
Or buy a 1.0 fiat uno and put up with it for a couple of years and try to build up a no claims discount.

Go to www.screentrade.co.uk

Im 20 & insured under my 49 year old pop with 9yrs no-claims fully comp for £435 with Tesco.... Screentrade got me a quote of £300!! I think i'll be swapping over :p

I do my insurance on my cinquecento sporting with tesco and i got it for £1100!!! has there some sort of sudden rise in insurance costs or is the high price because of you still having a provisional drivers licensce???
That may rise the premium somewhat!

Being an old git does have it's advantages...

I've only just turned 30 but with 6 years no claims Tesco only wanted £290 to insure our Stilo for me and the wife fully comp.

'Ere! Less of the "old" ...

If that's old, what does that make me, then?

We gave Tesco a miss because they weren't very good. They wouldn't insure our car on it's purchase price, they wanted to know the exact spec and added to the premium. Hence, after taking into account the 17" wheels, metallic paint, dual zone climate control, leather steering wheel, etc (i.e. all the manufacturer fitted options we got) their premium was over the top. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was nearly £500.

Try Bell Direct on the internet. They are underwritten by Admiral, but I have just moved my Group 11 new Ulysse [including options] to them. BUT unsure what they are like for youngsters. I am paying just around £600 for me and my wife, including 9 points between us [SP30*2 + SP50], Class 2 business use, and fully comp obviously. The only thing is you that the quote is based on paying by debit/credit card up front, instalments more expensive!
