Do you not see/read/hear the news?

The country doesnt have any money. How did you prove it was worth 1400?

Did you accept the offer? You never accept the first offer on pretty much anything

I would think the company would want to see some form of proof of what you
paid for the car and then take off whatever they consider a suitable level of depreciation. But what if you're claiming more than you actually paid for the car? What if you were conned into paying more than the car is worth? All-in-all, they will offer what they consider it's worth, less what they think they can get away with. You also have to ask the question: Has what you've done
to the car increased it in value, or simply maintained the status quo? Unfortunately, if you have fitted, for example alloy wheels and a body kit, that may make the car more attractive to thieves. If I make my Panda MJ look
like a 100HP, someone may steal it because they think it's a fast car. So, does spending, for example, £1,000 on my car make it a grand more valuable or more of a liability. Insurance companies like you to inform them of any significant modifications to your car. Well that was a bundle of laughs wasn't it? I bet really cheered you up. Sorry.
I'm going now.

iv not accepted any offer yet, they said they will pay me this and then if i can prove its worth more they will sort it out.

they said to send similar examples of which i did, all at over 2 grand, 2000 plate jtd's, one with rear wing damage too, over 90k mileage.

Insurance companies have their own idea of 'market value', I think they look it up in a copy of Glass's guide. I don't know why they bother to ask you the value of the car when your applying for insurance, they will give you as little as they think they can get away with.

you've already accepted £800 so you're buggered now.

you need to refuse their offers until you're happy with it. if you cant reach an agreement you need to start a dispute and then it will be decided by an independant body (financial ombdsman service iirc).

by accepting the £800 payout you bascially agreed that was the value.

acceptible proof of value is usually a few adverts for the same age/mileage/spec car. if you can't buy one for less than a grand then your car worth at least a grand. it doesnt matter how much you paid for the actual car, all that matters is its market value.

in future, say you paid a lot more thna you really did. i said i paid £500 more than i did for the astra, so if i need to make a claim it will be more likely to be valued reasonably.

if you got £800 they obviously valued it at £800 + your excess. are you sure the car is worth more than that total?

damn, i really should read the thread before replying.

in that case, refuse the offer and ask them what they require for a valuation. letters are a waste of time, you need to call and use your negotiation skills (shout).
