Hi to all of you!

I'm new to this forum and i like to ask some things concerning my new instrument cluster for my fiorino 1.5 Spi which i think is from an Uno sx.
Originally was equipped with the basic Uno mk1 instrument (speedo & fuel) while the new has also a tacho and a water temp. gauge which obviously do not work if i just replace it. So how i will make these work, what kind of connections should be made?

Regards.

The tacko is easy, you just need a wire to connect to one of the terminals on the coil. Its easy to figure out which connector on the instrument cluster, just look at the circuit board directly behind the tacko and you will see three pins, two of them are obviously shared with other instruments (this makes them the +ve and -ve feeds) the other one therefore is the connection that goes to the coil.

As far as I know it doesnt matter which of the low voltage connectors you use on the coil just attach a wire to it.

As for the temp gauge, you will need to find a sensor off a wreck (its on the cylinder head) that has the same type of engine, or you might be able to buy a new one. If your old instruments have a temp warning light then you will need to replace the temp switch on the cylinder head with a temp sensor. The wiring is the same setup with three pins, one of them being the signal from the sensor.

Interesting I also noticed that you have a very early instrument cluster, that has the check control panel. Now that will be a challenge to get working :)

You will need to remove the black module off the back of the cluster to get at the wiring I was talking about in my last post.

Regarding the instrument pod......

My 96 Brava 1.4 12V SX hasnt got a tachometer, if I replace dials with ones from a 1.8 with Tacho (unsure of model), will it be a straight swap as it was when I done it with my Metro 1.1i.

Thankies :D

:yeahthat:

If you can get a spare multi plug with the pins that connect to the instrument pod you can then remove one of the connecting pins but keep some wire on it if you have to cut it off. Use a small watchmakers screw driver to depress the retaining tang and it will come out of the plug. Find out which pin on your dashboard plug is for the tachometer (it's one of the free ones - looking from the back as per your picture it's the socket furthest to the left if I can remember correctly), fit the spare pin in and then connect a wire from this to the LT side of the coil. This will get your tachometer working and also with a factory style connector. That's how I did it on my 45S, or just do what JJHepburn suggests as that's easier.

As for the check panel, don't bother! They were known to be unreliable, which is why Fiat stopped using them in later models of the SX. You need a load of extra connectors and sensors plus the wiring loom to get it to work. It's a big headache! I know because I tried to do it myself on my older 45, but even though the sensors were working and in place the check panel kept indicating faults. Just unscrew the big black module from the instrument pod and use it as a door stop or something ;)

Thats exactly what I did to my instrument cluster, I have a UT cluster in my car so have also got connections for oil temp and pressure gauges. Its actually the easiest way of doing the job.

Thanx all of you for your replies. Really helpful!

Something i forgot to ask. When i swaped the instruments i noticed that the fuel gauge doesn't work. Should this happen?
Also my speedo's needle "jumps" about 5 km/h until 80 km/h and then stays almost steady if you can understand what i'm saying although i have cleaned and lubricate the inner speedo cable. i suppose something wrong with gearbox connection but don't know what to check for. Any advice?

Iv'e done it!!!!

Went to scrapyeard weekend and foud a 97 Brava 1.6SX with dials and tachometer. Eight squids, bargain!

After long deliberation and swear words galore I have made a guide

=====================================================

Guide to changing Dials/Display Pod in Brava 1.4S 96:

1 - Get new dials/pod
2 - Remove 5 screws holding in facia/surround
3 - Carefully remove surround making sure you dont break the heater connection, and remove headlight adjustment switch and display brightness switches
4 - There is another 5 bolts holding in dials, these have to be removed.
5 - After these 5 bolts are removed there is another 2 plugs that can be removed with moderate difficulty from top of dials.
6 - After these are removed, carefully remove the dials to the left side.
7- Take apart both units and remove the digital display (Odemeter) as this has your mileage recorded on.
8 - Swap around and secure all screws and joints.
9 - Finish off by doing reverse with new dials

Wa la!

Well done! But it might be better post the above in the Bravo/a section rather than the Uno section ;)
