Hi, does anybody know where I can buy the inner driveshaft/cv boots from? Both of mine have splits in them, the ones at the back of each hub are fine. I had a look on ebay and they appear quite different to the ones that are on atm. Also, how difficult/easy are they to fit? I have access to a garage with ramps. Thanks

Yep! They can supply them but I will have to wait about 4 weeks....Mot is next week!!! Was hoping someone on here had purchased these from a motor factor and pass on some info. Will keep looking

Don't know about this motor but I have done quite a few CV boots in my time & the inner ones tend to be a real pig. On all the ones I have done, the inner boot could only go on once the outer joint is removed.
There is/ was a product called (I think) a Euro boot which could be installed with the shaft in-situ - simply a normal boot split along one side but the edges were lipped to facilitate gluing. I found it best to give the shaft a quick wire brush to get rid of flakes, put the boot on mid shaft (well away from grease etc) and apply a bead of glue - do this whilst your hands are still clean. Then work on removing the damaged boot, clean out the old grease (It probably has contaminants in there if the boot has been split a while - dust, grit etc). Then slide the new boot along into place - by now the glue should have set.
Hope this helps.
BTW, last one I did was about 8 years ago so these may have improved or may not be available !

Hi, thanks for the info. After speaking to a friend today he said that you can now buy split cv boots so no need to take the outer boots off 1st!!!! If I can't find these ones I may turn the new boot in-side out, grease then try and squeeze it over the shaft using a cone...

Try Joe at Fiat Coupe Specialist spares, He may be able to help (do a search and it'll come up). Could also try Alternative Auto's:

As I said. There are some on ebay - stickyboots.
However, there are also some which you can stretch over a cone (must admit, first time I've ever seen these so learned something new!) which look like simplicity itself to fit & are a universal fit.
Personally, I'd go with these as there is always a risk of contaminating the joined edges of a stickyboot so the glue might not hold.

Well, they were an absoulte pig to change!!! I left it for a while and did some other work in prep for MOT, and it passed with flying colours. I ended up taking the end's off the driveshaft's and lots of ball bearings fell out of one side!!! Great!! However, after fiddling for about a couple of hours (each side) they were done and everything put back together. Would I do it again??? Yes! only cost half a day's work and £20 for the boots (replaced all 4 to the front).

The next job I'm doing before the winter sets in (did it ever leave) is the thermostat. I've stripped it out and bought a new one, tried to take out the water sensor, and, you've guessed it, it broke!!!!Waiting for a new one to arrive then bleed the system (may need some info on this)

Thanks for the info in previous posts
