Technical Inner CV Boot Question

4x4 boots are different from 2wd cars, which can make it tricky getting the right ones online. I tend to get them from the dealer, from memory they are about £8, so not exactly a crippling price.

This just inner ones that are different? Getting outer ones for Sisley (I know thread is on about inner ones though) was easy, but then again I might have just been lucky

Why are they different:confused:

The inner boots have an oil seal/bearing where it fits to the shaft because the other end fits to a flange on the diff casing and doesn't rotate.

I bought one from an on-line source and it turned out to be an outer boot, which are cheap and easily available.

Looks like I'll be getting one from a Fiat dealer then. Less than a tenner is good enough for me.

I meant why are the inner boots on 4x4s and 2wds different not the difference between the inner and outer boots.

The inner boots on the 4x4 have a nylon inner rather than a metal bearing. They are a slightly different length too I think. I believe a spacer can be used to adapt the 2x4 boot but I have never done this. The 4x4 boots are also cr*p though I've found that now I have the right gear all they don't seem to leak so badly! First Line make both if you have trouble getting them from Fiat.

There are a couple of variations in 2 sizes 70mm and 80mm. I've got a D-plate and I had a choice between 2. One had a cable tie on each end, the other has one cable tie and an inner seal (mine is the latter).

If you know somewhere you can get hold of these, let me know as I will need a couple myself.(y)

Hi Trevor.

Won't be able to post a picture for a while yet as the car is located a long way from where I actually live but the Fiat part number is 7625541. That's just for the boot and doesn't include the fittings to secure it at either end. I'm hoping to get a complete kit that includes it all.

Cheers.

OK, having another look at ePer:

Passenger side inner boots (the one I need) are the same for all models.

Drivers side inner boots from 1991 are the same for all models but pre-1991 there are a choice of two.

If anyone is interested I'll post all the diagrams from ePer complete with part numbers.
