Hi,
Yesterday the injector failure light come on and stayed on, on my 99 Brava 1.9 JTD 105 ELX.
When checking under the bonnet I found a disconnected pipe, when I pushed the pipe back on to the disconnected device the light went out.
I think this device is a Borg Warner modulating value, although my workshop manual suggests my model does not have this, it has 2 rubber pipes going into it, the pipe that had come off was on the left, this pipe (which is metal in the middle and runs under the engine cover) comes from the EGR value modulator.

The problem I have now is the Borg Warner is making a pretty loud humming noise which is very quickly released when I remove either of the pipes, it appears there is a pressure build up which has blown the pipe off.

Does anyone know what this Borg Warner device does, should it be making this noise?.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them.

All the best.
Ian.

first thing to do is check your pipe arrangement agrees with the attached image.

then check each pipe for blockages or leaks.

I removed the pipes last night and blow and sucked through them, and found no noticeable blockages or leaks.
Then I removed the Borg Warner value and blow and sucked through it and gave it a good shake.
I noticed that the small connection at the bottom of the unit that sucks in air is missing a filter.
After reassembly the car is running better with no warning light and the unit appears to be turning on and off at tick over when I rev it.
The only thing is it still sucks in air when I turn the engine off, I guess this is normal as there is still some vacuum left.
To hazard a guess, the filter has come off the Borg Warner and been sucking in dirty air and getting clogged up. So I think I will get another Borg Warner with filter and put that on.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Ian.
