Injection light ON!!!!

Hi guys,

came back from a 2 week holiday, and went to start me car, broom....broom., but then the injection light came on, it has never done this before ever.

it sounds to me an in-experienced ear like it srunning on 3 cylinders, i can and have driven the car as i need it for work, anywayi turned off the car took out spark plugs and very basically scrapped them with a wire brush. back in they went and still the same.

the top speed i can get is only 55mph and it judders heavily if i slow in a high gear. But it does drive?

Q is what is it and what should i consider doing first before heading off to the garage, and is driving it going to make it worse or will it eventually get better, when i was driving it to work twice it surged and then backed off at the same time as this the light reacted by going off (surge) then on when it backed off.

Please help, i am poor and cannot afford to lose my drive to work. What should i do.

ive had a few problems lately, could be anything from sensors to your ecu take it to a diagnostic asap only 20 ish quid to find out what is wrong whereas if you keep driving it you could be making the problem worse.

Do you think i would have to take it to a Fiat garage for Diagnostic, or would me local be able to do it?

And if i change the spark plugs might that help?

Does it run rough when idling? If so, switch the engine on and take the plugs out one at a time. As you pull them out it should get rougher, if it stays the same BINGO - that's the bad egg... I mean plug!

No on idle its not rough, it ok, its when i piut the pedal down and expect some motion that it gets worse.

I will be buying some new plugs tomorrow and change them all. well see what happens after that.

if it is the injectors whats the cost to have them all replaced in a garage......this is gonna get tearful i can see it.

most garages have a diagnostic machine mate just dnt get roped into paying over the odds

dont fret mate can just be a little sensor problem sounds very similar to what happend to my car just needed a crank shaft sensor and there was a break in the loom from air flow sensor aswell all to gether it cost about 70 quid

Not sure on the costs, all I know is, is that you don't wanna be spending that kinda money around Christmas time!! Lol

injector light just means there is some kind of problem not nessisarily the injectors mate

order of action then, spark plugs tomorrow then diagnostic at me local freindly garage.

hoping that its not to bad.. as yesit is bloody Xmas. sod that i need to pay the rent first.

i had a similar problem problem but my light would go off sometimes. a friendly mechanic told me to put redex injector cleaner in the tank and take a run up the motorway. this fixed the problem. and my fuel efficiency almost doubled.

OK been to halford put the Redex in and bought some 4 pin spark plugs, took mine out and to be fair they looked trashed but im not an expert. and still the same problem.

so bit worried now, it just sound awful when i put me foot down to get out of 2nd or 3rd, could it be the leads?

it really sound like like one of the pistons is simply not firing, i can still go no faster than 55mph without feeling its gonna go pop.

what to do now. very concerned it's still getting me to work though ut for how long?????

Seriously get it to a garage ASAP before you seriously damage something. A missfire can destroy the cat and thats more money down the tube.

Could be leads but best getting it to a garage incase it could be something more serious.

ok guys on me ride home last night, with the redex i am guessing making its way through the system, things atarted to happen, about 10 or 20 times the situation went back to normal, surges then backing off, then more surges with the light staying off for a while and then coming back on.

At one point it did stay off and the car sounded and drove perfectly for about 5 minutes, then went back to norm.

today is my last shift and will be going to garage to garage to have check tomorrow, but is this a good sign that maybe is just saying that the injectors are covered in muck and just needed a good clean a things should improve, or is stil a more sinister thing. ?

what do you reckon?

The light indicates an electrical fault, not dirty injectors.

MY LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO LOCAL GARAGE FOR A DIAGNOSTICS TEST, INJECTOR 1 WAS FAULTY.REPLACED.JOB DONE.THE ACTUAL INJECTOR WAS BROKEN, NOT FAULTY.IT WAS IN BITS!!!!!!!REPLACED INJECTOR AND LABOUR-£130. NOT TO BAD I THINK!!!

OK changed plugs the same, went to known garage and he checked all of the plugs and there firing (timing) he loves these cars which helped and he said its the coil as one of my plugs has an intermitent timing -

There is also a local R reg fiat brava being scrapped at a local breckers, now my car is a 16V S reg, can i just take the part off the 16 V R reg and stick it on? or is there more to it than that?

The mechanic by the wya highly recomends giong for spares at breakers for these cars as alot are in the breakers yards and teh savings are huge....but back to the Q, qill i be ok swapping them over - point to not is they dont look the same, simlier but not the same, will this really make a difference.

16v doesn't help us as 3 very different 16v engines were fitted.

well the car in the scrappers is an R reg 1.6 16V brava, and mine is the same but carrying a S registration.

Am i able to simpl swap them over?

if not what the cost of getting a new one.
