Induction kits...is there any point???

I have a 80SX which is great for zipping around town...but shows its limitations on the motorway when I am trying to overtake...nearly soiled myself yesterday in the pissing rain when overtaking an articulated trunk on the Limerick to Cork motorway. The truckdriver decided to move to the outside lane while I was overtaking....flinkin blimp...I floored the accelerator while in 5th...I was doing about 70mph...and I just barely squeezed through...will putting an induction kit make any difference to the performance of the car when overtaking and suchlike or do I have to accept the fact that it is only an asthmatic 1.2 and drive within its limitations...Thanks all

Pete.

Nope, an induction kit will give you no extra power. What it will do is make the engine rev a bit more freely in the lower gears.

You should have dropped it into 4th though :)

Re: Re: Induction kits...is there any point???

Thats what i was gonna say - drop to forth.

Probably even the 1.6 would have had little power at 70 in fifth but drop in to forth or even third and it should fly.

When does the power kick in on the 1.2?

Re: Re: Re: Induction kits...is there any point???

I have the 1.2sx and i think its fairly nippy for such a small engine, is this just me?

does anyone know how it compares to other 1.2's or small engined cars?

im not really into the whole racing thing so i dont really know!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction kits...is there any point???

it is much much livelier than a 1.2 16V corsa about year 1998.

The power kicks in at around 3500rpm for me...but like you guys were saying I should really have dropped it down to 4th...I think it was the warm squidgy feeling in my Calvins that threw me..

Re: Re: Induction kits...is there any point???

so what rpm do you guys find the engine goes flat. Used to drive a 1.8 which loved being revved to 6500rpm but i find the 1.2 there is no point going past 5500rpm! Anyone found the same??

Re: Re: Re: Induction kits...is there any point???

only 2000revs of power then?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction kits...is there any point???

Sory to sat this but the 1.2 is almost out of steam in the overtaking department on the motorways at 70/80mph.

An induction kit will give you maybe 5% more revving power, but about 20% more noise. One to avoid. The first thing I did when I got my 155 was to take the induction kit off.

Admittedly, the 1.2 is lively for a small beast, but I have had a 2002 1.2 16v Corsa as a loan car for a while and I have to say; it would cream a Bravo 1.2 quite easily, I'm afraid to say.

Maybe that's why they're popular with the Tools who drive round and round town endlessly?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction kits...is there any point???

yea but obviously the corsa is a super mini weighing a lot less so its gonna be quicker, not really a fair comparison. The punto sporting sharing the 1.2 16v, flies and wipes the floor of the corsa. Driven corsa as courtesy car and was not impressed. Mate has a punto and im sure its quicker to 80 than my 1.8 bravo is!

corsa...lol

i have a 1.4 bravo and it is faster than the equivilent in a ford by loads... anyway even if the corsa was faster is still looks crap and is still a borin vauxhall...i very much doubt that its faster anyway
