Hello everyone,

I've been searching the internet for help and found this forum. I've got an s reg bravo 80 sx which i loved until today. The clutch pedal has been making a crunching noise when pressed so was a bit worried. Tried to put the car in gear today and there was smoke coming from front end. i parked and then tried to put car in gear but it would not let me. The car is currently sitting in a car park. I think i need a new clutch. Can anyone please tell me how much this might cost and what garage it is safe to take it to. I live in Erdington in Birmingham. Any ideas, suggestions would be much appreciated. Please help

Yup, clutch. :(

From what other people have had done, its £120ish to over £300 depending on garage. Hard to say until you get it done.

Sounds like yours needs a tow though.

Same thing happened to me, there was a sqealing coming from the engine when you pressed the clutch, then one day none of the gears would engage. I had the whole clutch replaced because the mechanic said it was worth doing that when fixing the parts that were broken (thrust bearing and clutch plate), only cost me £50 because most was covered in the warranty. When the mechanic came to pick it up he didn't tow it but he drove it off somehow.

I think if you try to engage a gear and gradully accelerate the gear will engage, I think rally drivers do this for quickness, someone can correct me if I am wrong?

Probably does not help you but hey.

Re: Re: In trouble

In my old Ford ahem Fiesta..i used to be able to turn the engine of engage gear, then restart it...

..but to change gear when driving i had to switch off the engine, wait for the clutch to stop spinning, whip it into gear, then start it up again...

...It was fun until you got to roundabouts, and find out that you have no brakes...lol...(I was only 17..those were the days)
