after havin a good couple fiats i know that the head gasket is a major problem with fiat engines so i was wondering if there was anyway of stoppign this bein so much of a problem. is there a strengthened head gasket or similar avialable to help improve the engines reliability?? sorry if this has been covered before jus been thinkin about it the last couple of days.

I've only ever once had a head gasket go on a Fiat/Lancia engine - and that was my fault really

Truth is that there are better than OE gaskets out there. When I was playing around with engines a lot I always used Spesso gaskets http://www.spesso.com/ as they always fit perfectly and are very high quality; they take some beating but aren't the cheapest.

well i was MAYBE (big maybe) thinkin about lookin at a cinq again but right now later on at some point so thought i would ask n see what people were sayin. wouldnt be lookin at spendin loads since it would only be a cinq at the end of the day

I think the problem if HG fail due to many factors most of which can be prevented if the driver spots the problem. I found when helping with a friends HG that it had been done before and not skimmed properly, hence it blew again.

To be fair my HG on the Punto went in the middle of 101 things going wrong. Quite possibly me driving the car harsher than a 1.2 should have been pushed as well.

Mikey would be good to have you back in amongst the Cinqs again - Punto engine conversion maybe ;)

yeah 1.2 8v from the punto 60 is a straight swap, 1.2 16v sporting is more tricky, needing new gearbox, ecu amoungst other things not gonna get one for a wee while but do quite fancy gettin another one at some point :smt023

Good man! Might be away to look at a Punto for the old man later, surprisingly HG is my biggest point of concern!
