General I'm Amazed, and Puzzled!!

I was going to change the Tappet on my car as it was driving my mad. 2 months ago I had the engine apart to adjust the tappets but then realised that Tappet #3 was broke so I needed to change it. Then last weekend I got the rocker cover off and Tappet #3 was fine and now Tappet #6 wasn't working. SO I took the rocker shaft out and then Tappet #4 fell out!! So I said this one falls out so I will change this one, but the new tappet falls out to. But then I don't have adjustable tappets which isn't right!

I said sod it and put it all back together and now it works better than it ever has done!! Its great and I don't know why it is now working! My fuel consumption has gone down and I've now got some "go" when I want!

How did you determine that the tappets werent working?

They would move back and forth on the pedestals which means they weren't full of oil

You've possibly had something stopping the oil getting in to the tappet, a bit of grit, frinstance. Since you ahve wiggled things about the tappets are now getting the oil they need.
