Just fitted a pair of aftermarket spots, Ice blue, one in bumper wither side of lights, but instead of wiring into light circuit i've wired it directly to the power supply, got an illuminated light in the dash, its all earth and they turn off with the ignition but to my horror....It's just failed its mot because they aren't wired into lights.....I thought he was talking utter sh*t as the spots should not affect the mot but who is right?????

If they`re in the bumper, they are fog lights and must conform to the regs.

If they are driving lamps (spots) rather than fogs they must be controlled along with the existing full beam.

The joys of construction and use regs. :)

If you read the regs in detail, if you have front fogs, they should actually turn OFF when you go to main beam.

If you want a laugh, look at the utter arse-ache kitcar owners have to go though to pass the SVA test. Got to pass noise tests, there can be no sharp or possibly damaging edges exposed where either you, your passenger or a pedestrian could get hurt, pedals MUST have rubber anti-slip pads etc....

Re: Re: Illegal??

It's easiest to wire them as driving lights. These must only come on with full beam. If you wire them as fog lights, you'll need to fit an illuminated switch, which is a bit of a fag.

You can buy a kit to wire spots into the main beam circuit as driving lights. It's important to use a kit: the extra lighting should be connected via a relay, or you'll burn out either your wiring or the switch.

Re: Re: Re: Illegal??

Looks like i'm rewiring them, and i know about kit car owners problems cos i am one, got a Project 2b (Robin Hood) currently trying to sort the 2.5 tipo sierra enigine out so it works :( great fun!
