Do we have a Clark Kent/Superman scenario here
Or maybe Jekyl/Hyde?

Or perhaps Nigel & Spyde share a flat and have some issues over the unreplaced toothpaste top or lifting the seat?

Re: What a buch of ill educated biggots

Havong read and contibuted to this post, may I make some observayopms?
One question asked was the following....
What do britians do when they go abroad?

They might well eat the same old rubbish food and live in British enclaves, but at least they do not try to claim benefits from the country they have moved to. They save there money then retire there or go thier to work, what they do with their money or their lives is surely up to them.

So, India was a jewel before we came?

Is this the same india that still believes in the caste system?
India has for years fought to keep caste discrimination off the international agenda. But starting Friday in Bombay, Hinduism's centuries-old social hierarchy will be a focus of fury for thousands of global activists.

The World Social Forum, the annual convention of the antiglobalization movement which is being held in Asia for the first time, will take up caste as one of five main themes for its panels and protests.

Caste “is certainly a very central issue that's going to be put on the table,” said Gautam Mody, a spokesman for the forum which organizers expect to draw 75,000 people through January 21.

More than 138 million Indians belong to the lowest caste known as the Dalits, or “the oppressed,” the term the community prefers to the archaic “untouchables.” Another 68 million Indians belong to tribes facing similar social stigma.

By the estimate of New York-based Human Rights Watch, more than 100,000 atrocities including murder and rape are committed each year against Dalits, who in the view of Hindu traditionalists should not be allowed even to sit on the same bus seats as higher-caste Indians.

I think the fact that our queen is of german descent, and her husband is a Greek, just goes to prove that we are as a whole, ready to accept most people and races into this country.

I think the very first post made the point that the driver was an illegal immigrant and had already been ordered to leave the country and had not done so.

As the son of a irish catholic mother, I could also go on about the methods used by the English against the Irish, but I refuse to dwell in the past, just as I refuse to be held accountable for what the british empire has done in the past.

What concerns me, is the present......and the future

Re: Re: What a buch of ill educated biggots

Poignant, Padraig.

Any very true.

Re: Re: Re: What a buch of ill educated biggots

Yeah I noticed the Ip thingy. Must be an AOL IP address rather than the actual terminal address. You cannot "ping" the IP address so I would assume it is the central AOL one that the forum picks up.

Re: Re: Re: Re: What a buch of ill educated biggots

Oh well it was an amusing litle thought for 5 mins
Fed up that the thread got hijacked by ranting though

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: What a buch of ill educated biggots

From the wbsite of Migration watch, an independant and non politicle organisation

We are frequently asked about statements on asylum and immigration, many of them false or misleading, which are constantly repeated by the immigration lobby. Here is a selection.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"Immigrants contribute to our economy".
The Facts
Our economic output (GDP) is likely to increase if the population increases (since each new person adds something to output) but it doesn't follow the GDP per head - the measure that matters - rises. Most studies find any increase to be almost negligible e.g. A major American study conducted by the National Research Council in 1997, suggested that immigrants might add 1/10% to GDP per head per year. Against that are the costs of increased congestion and, in some cases, negative social effects.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"Britain needs unskilled labour to run its economy."
The Facts
There are 1.5 million unemployed plus 2.2 million whom the Government wishes to move from welfare to work. Furthermore, productivity in Britain is 25% below that of the United States. It follows that there is a good deal of labour available if the labour market were to be allowed to operate. A large scale flow of immigrants ready to work for low wages impedes the proper operation of the labour market. It may suit employers but the tax payer pays for the extra schools, hospitals and other services the migrants need. Furthermore, we are denuding third world countries, whose needs are greater than ours, of doctors and teachers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"Britain needs a large number of skilled workers".
The Facts
There are some skill shortages, notably in the medical profession, which could be filled by the issue of work permits. But this should be temporary. The only long-term solution is to train or re-train our own staff. The existence of skill shortages in limited sectors is not an argument for mass immigration.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"Britain (or usually Europe) has a declining population
and work force"
The Facts
The British population is officially projected to increase by 5.6 million by 2031 (3 million of this is attributable to the assumed level of immigration.) The work force will also increase, partly because women will be working longer. With a birth rate of 1.64, Britain is in a completely different situation from Germany, Italy and Spain whose birth rate is about 1.1. It is therefore misleading to treat Europe as a single entity for this purpose.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"Britain needs migrant workers to help pay for our pensions"
The Facts
False. Immigrants themselves grow older. To maintain the present population of working age to pensioners would require over 1 million immigrants a year up to 2050. That would double the population to 120 million and leave us with the same problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"Migrants contribute a net £2.5 billion to the exchequer"
The Facts
False. The relevant Home Office paper was heavily qualified, describing the results as conditioned on the period in which they are calculated and the country's position in the business cycle. In fact the year chosen was one in which the public sector accounts were in surplus so everyone was contributing 5% more than they took out. The study also overlooked the key point that, since the early 1990s, migrants have added to our population so it ignored the cost of new facilities required and the costs of special education etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"People come to Britain as asylum seekers because there are so few legal avenues available".
The Facts
Most of the main source countries for asylum seekers, such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia, are not "open" countries from which employers could easily recruit employees. In countries such as India, where we have massively increased the number of work permits issued in recent years, there has been no decline in the number
of people seeking asylum. The vast majority of these asylum claims are false - approximately 1in 20 of Indian applicants were granted asylum or exceptional leave in 2002.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"In 2001 the total number of successful asylum applicants was as high as 51% (Refugee Council)".
The Facts
False. This includes those granted Exceptional Leave to Remain (ELR) - a category now abolished by the Home Secretary because it had been awarded too liberally. Over the six years 1997 - 2002 just over 20% were granted asylum and a further 16.5% were granted ELR. Source: Home Office statistical bulletin 09/02 Table 1.1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"The UK ranked twelfth in the EU in terms of asylum applications in relation to the overall population on 2001"
The Facts
Misleading. It ignores the key point that what matters is not population but population density. England is nearly twice as crowded as Germany, four times France and twelve times the United States. We took more asylum applicants than Germany and more than twice as many as France in the year 2002. In the same year we took 29% of all the applicants who came to the EU - up from 5% in 1992. Our share of the EU's population was 15%.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"Britain takes only 2% of the world's refugees (Refugee Council)"
The Facts
False. The Refugee Council included the refugees in Asia and Africa and also confused a stock with a flow. The correct comparison is the number of asylum seekers coming to Britain compared to the number coming to Europe in a particular year. UNHCR figures for 2002 show that approximately 23% of asylum seekers arriving in Europe (and 29% of those coming to the EU) came to Britain.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Myth
"Those who oppose large scale immigration seek to establish "fortress Britain".
The Facts
Absurd. In 2002 there were 89 million international arrivals in Britain. Of these 62 million were British nationals returning home. 14 million were nationals of the European Economic Area and 12.6 million were from outside Europe. Not exactly a fortress. The issue is not how many come to Britain but how many come to settle here, often illegally.

January 2004

You just have to laugh

Immigrants won a high court battle against truck and lorry manufactures for the poor quality of vehicle interiors. The action was led by Ashoki Thelanbaan of Karachi who endured a 48 hours nightmare when crossing the border illegally between France and Germany in a bid to reach England.

His fellow travelers also relayed stories and our reporter noted looks of distress on jurors when the horrendous conditions were exposed.

Juror's moved my woeful conditions

One Juror (who cannot be named for legal reasons) commented:

'I can't believe how these poor people managed. It's so unfair,
Immigrants leaving the detention centre

so unnecessary. All the manufacturers must look closely at the carriage interiors. I hope returning a guilty verdict will force new legislation that sees better seating arrangements with soft, cushioned furnishing to assist illegal immigrants along their difficult journey.'
In his summing up, Judge Littlewood claimed:

'We have seen human rights violation that must be resolved. These people have nothing; they are destitute and lay no claim to land or ownership of any sort. We must appreciate the gravity of this situation and do our utmost to ensure their safe passage to a life of unemployment and state dependency.'

Reactions from the Immigrants

During proceedings the immigrants broke down. Anil Gupta explains:

'I was outside a service depot in Paris when I saw the driver checking the haulage. Three colleagues and I jarred open the doors. However, within a short time we experienced dizzy spells and nausea. Fortunately, I had a pocket torch given to me by my old professor in Lahore. I was horrified to find the consignment was cheese bound for the Germany.'

'I've not eaten cheese since and go into convulsions at the sight of unwrapped cheese slices. I dare not consider the outcome if I was offered a slice of Wensleydale. In addition, we were traveling in the wrong direction and this delayed our plans to enter the United Kingdom.'

'I think the haulage company and the manufactures should compensate all the passengers for the traumatic experience and loss of time.'

Mr. Gupta's travel companion added

'I ended up sniffing Gupee's (Mr. Gupta) armpits as this was a better alternative to the stench in the carriage. It was most upsetting. None of this need happen if easy access to windows was provided.'

'Even in India we have windows on lorry carriages, and people have access to the roof top on all public transport. My god, I thought you people were advance.'

Haulage Industry wait on Governments Response

When asked if Illingworth Haulage would reconsider its current practices, Mr Illingworth conceded:

'I guess I don't have much choice in the matter. I'm going leave some bottles of water, and a pack lunch in each carriage. Dotty who does the teas at management meetings is also looking into some vegetarian options as these Hindu's don't eat meat. It's all to complicated for me.'

Civil rights groups react angrily to slow reform

Tarquin Smith-Whiley of action group Better Interiors, Happier Immigrants (IBHI) considers this the first step in a long battle to upgrade and reupholster all haulage carriers.

'We've been lobbying the government since 1998 to change legislation and enact new laws that will drive through modernisation of haulage fleets. However, we've been frustrated by the governments lack of direction.'

'We've called for a referendum on this issue. Every person has a right to decide how illegal immigrants should enter this country and the comfort afforded to our guests is a point of nation pride. We would do no less for foreign dignitaries.'

The government has made no statement.

Re: You just have to laugh

i don't blame the immigrants, i blame the government, but after watching the report on the workers killed whilst picking cockles i was shocked. i knew about the whole gang scene is china where people are forced to come and work to pay off family debts, but i thought it was just shocking when china not only refused to take immigrants back from the uk but actually denied they were chianese. Come on china, sort it out, i really dont think britain should have to deal with this.

By the way, sorry for starting this lads!

Re: Re: You just have to laugh

all my favourite food (not cockles) is prepared by immigrants

Re: Re: Re: You just have to laugh

unfortunately they are an easily exploitable source of labour. If only they could get the lazy sods in this country to work, the 'i go an tele and say i cant afford to heat my house whilst sat infront of teh 28" tv and dvd player and full sky package smoking 40 a day so give me more benefit' group. come on tony, time to take the tough line with someone other than the motorist!

Re: Re: Re: Re: You just have to laugh

lol, just read the coment about britz on holiday. have you ever been to magalough (hmmm, uncultured spelling) every bar plays only fools and horses on repeat and serves english breakfast. oh how i cringe!!! talk about trying to disassociate yourself. lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: You just have to laugh

Know what you mean. Used to live next door to a permanently unemployed couple. They had every gadget under the sun - new PC, games consoles, home cinema, satelite tv (x2 - one for the kids). Their car was newer than mine and, yes, they both smoked. The bloke worked on the side to top up their benefits

Then I think of those miserable wretches who came half way around the world, probably at huge cost, to this land of opportunity only to drown in the middle of the night whilst earning a couple of quid a week for their back-breaking labour

Then you listen to the ignorant hatred spewed out against them and it makes you feel proud to be British, huh?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: You just have to laugh

Just heard on the news that the cockle pickers were being paid £1 for a nine hour shift and being kept 7 to a room in bedsits. They were transported around in minibuses by 'gentlemen' from the Liverpool area

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: You just have to laugh

Actually, I do feel proud to be British. I am not saying this is the best country in the world, or that we have answers to every problem, but all in all, I am happy with my nationality and my country.

Yes, I do go abroad on holiday, but no I dont have union jack shorts:)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: You just have to laugh

I love this country too, both physically and for it's democracy, justice and welfare

But I feel grateful to have been born here rather than proud. What I don't feel proud of is the bigotry spouted against foreigners, when their are British people so much more deserving of contempt

People born here with all the freedoms and opportunities that entails, but who prefer to leech off the rest of us or exploit others more vulnerable than themselves

That's what I'm not proud of

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: You just have to laugh

Bet they were Chinese gentleman, exploiting thier own

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: You just have to laugh

That's just the kind of Daily Mailitis I'm talking about

We'll know soon enough as the police are already interviewing some gentlemen as we speak
