General idling problem

hi,
I am new to forum so please excuse me.I have a fiat ulysse 97 2.0s which over last month or so has developed an idling problem.When car is idling if it falls below 1000rpm it stalls,which can be annoying if you are in slow moving traffic or slowing down for junctions,etc.and I have to continually restart car.More often than not this will happen when conditions are damp or raining.Once car is going above 1000rpm it runs fine,only happens once I slow down.I am due to take it to local fiat dealer after new year to have it looked at but it would be nice to go in armed with some suggestions to try and avoid any unnecessary expense!I would be grateful for any help whatsoever.

must be a big problem my ulysse does the same thing wife came in on sunday to say it was playing up i went out and it would not tick over after a lot of head scraching i lost my rag took car on the local bypass and drove full throtle in every gear when i come home it was fine on tick over no problems since [fingers crossed]my local fiat garage said to check all the vacum pipes.someone out there must now what is causing this

Welcome!
I have the same problem and it's meant to be caused by a dirty idle valve. I am going to strip it down and clean it when I have the time, its not causing me to much trouble at the moment, the symptoms go away when the engine is hot.
