Hi guys. I have sucessfuy completed the Selecta to Manual conversion and Phoebe (wifes named her pride and joy) is on the road and just completed a 650 mile round trip to Kent.

One small issue and I hope someone can help.

The car ticks over a little fast, and on 1 or 2 occasions (albeit before the blast to Kent) very fast indeed. I decided that I should change the stepper motor but I can not locate it!

Did the Selecta have one? or was the tickover controlled by the gearbox ECU? in which case it is no longer in the car.

Could someone confirm that 94 selecta does have stepper motor? and if possible post a picture showings its location.

I have checked the wiring diagram in the Haynes Manual and can find nothing attched to the throttle body witht the correct wiring colours.

Many thanks in anticipation.

does it use the same SPI TB as the cinq? (i dont know pandas but am assuming EFI seeing as tho you're looking for a stepper motor!)

if so the stepper is on the front right of the throttle body, black cylinder near the bottom with a 4 pin plug on it.

It is Spi, there are only 4 electronic connections to the throttle body.
Speedo potentiometer, two sensors actually inside the body of the throttle (assuming temp and pressure) and one 4 wired to the front and left, but it has only 2 screws (not 4 like haynes says) and wrong colour wiring. Hence my request for photo, to be sure.

The one with four wires and two screws will be it. I've attached a photo of the whole Idle Control Valve.

throttle posisition sensor, fuel injector, inlet air temp sensor and idle stepper motor should be the ones in there

Thanks guys, that looks like the same one.
Haynes manual obviously wrong, off to ebay to buy one and hope thats that.

Thanks again

It's just next to speedo potentiometer...(sorry for picture quality)
BTW
Did you use the same gearbox mount to fit manual gearbox? (I mean original mounts in car)

No believe it or not, the engine mounting (engine side) is different and of cuse the gearbox side is very different.

The engine side looks the same at first glance but for the manual you have to shift the engine over 1/2 inch.

hope that helps.

For what it is worth I suspect that the ECU on the selecta has positioned the stepper motor at idle at the same place at rest for all of its liife, and now that the nputs are differnet and there is a different load from the manual gearbox its "normal" resting place is wrong. If I am correct then replacing it will work, cleaning it won't. We shall see.

Thanks again, at least now I am sure exactly which piece it is. Haynes didn't help in this case.

Will post conclusion once I have changed stepper.

also try unplugging it, ignition on for 30 seconds, off and then back on for a bit, then plug it back in, then back on, then fire it up. ecu might re-learn the ICV settings then

Just to close off this thread, I have changed the stepper and after 10 mins of rev'ing its n**** off all has settled down and tickover is perfect.

For reference once electric fan switched in and then out, I restarted the engine and all settled down fine.

Thanks for all your help again.

Dennis
