Idle Speed / Engine Mgt

I have a Bravo 1.8HLX which has done 45,000 miles which has been (relatively!!) faultless. Recently the Engine Mgt warning light stayed on - tuning cleared it but within 30 miles of running the problem came back. Idle speed when cold is around 900-1000, but rises to between 1600 and 2400 when hot - but performance on the road is quite reasonable. Suggestions would be most welcome - some temperature or exhaust sensor??

Thanks, Bill

Idle speed problem

I have same kind of problems in my car. Fortunatelly it was under warranty.
Faulty part was idle air valve. Local service changed it and now it works great. I didn't have any warning lights lit up. Serviveman told that IAV was stucking mechanically somehow and ECU didn't find it. (This is bit strange because throttle position sensor was sending idle information and engine speed sensor was sending 1500rpm etc.)
In case of no warranty I would try cleaning the unit first.
