This is an idea for all those who have only one key. If you can have that key which sends the signal copied(2 or 3 times) Then destroy the original key or hide it in the car and if you destroy the key and hide the part that send the signal to the car, either way or the other. This is so that when you start a signal can still be send to the receiver so that the engine will start.
The cause for destroying the key is so that if some one comes across the hidden key that you wont be left stranded. When the key is destroyed and hidden where it can still send a signal it basically will be like starting any other car that dosent have an engine immobliser ect.( I hope). Before destroying or hiding the key try starting to see if it really works.
This is only an idea and anyone who have a better idea or know better I welcome you to post your opinion.
If you have only one coded key and it is lost or misplace for what ever reason what will you do?

I dont know if i can explain it any better.
If you have only one key and it is lost how will you start the car? I hope you see the point there.

If you only have one key copy it a couple times.

Hide the original key in the car providing you can start the car with one of the copies so that a signal can be sent to the receiver from the original key.
It is just an idea i hope will work.

Are you having a laugh?

You are in insurance company's one man walking disaster.

Right, finally decrypted it. i think he thinks that the copied key will have to relay the de-immobilise command via the original key...call me crazy but id be beyond suprised if that were the case...

no no no,

what he means is

If you only have one key left.

get it copied a couple of times, (this is where the poster forgets you can have new coded keys cut at Timpsons or where ever it is)

so you end up with 2 blank metal keys (no code obviously)

To get the imobiliser to turn off, you then keep the coded key in the car near to the ignition so the code is picked up by the reciever.

However to keep someone from just smashing your window and using your hidden key to drive off with, you need to destroy the "key" (metal shaft) part of the coded key.

Then you can use one of your plain metal copies to actually start your car.

Could you really be pestered with all the aggro and chewing on - even if it does work?

Or you could just remove the chip from the key and place it near the ignition.

Whats to stop somebody hotwiring your car by doing that??? The coded chip is the only thing stopping thieves from getting your car started.

Also, by putting the key in the car or by placing the chip inside the car you will find your insurance void.

You have to tell insurance company when you have remote start on the car and they place the imobilser chip inside a secure box and that.

Bad Idea All The Way!!!

Understand what he means but dont think it will work. My car alarm, clifford, is thatcham category one ith its own immoboliser, when tying to add the remote start function to it the only way to bypass the fiat immboliser and use the alarms one only was to tape the coded chip from the key directly onto the chip pick up coil which sits round the ignition barrel, the other option as said is to cut of the metal part of the key and leave the plastic/rubber end with the coded chip in it close to that same chip pick up coil sitting round the ignition barrel, the furthest you can sight that destroyed key is within the steering column surround panels, even then its picky which way the destroyed key is oriented depsite being that close. I wasn;t comfortable with the fiat immoboliser constantly being overridden/bypassed so i went back to normal. So yes, it can be done but is a lot of hassle considering timpsons etc will copy your key and give a nice coded replica for around £20.

I was concern about some one having only one key and loosing it what will they do if that happens. Let say you have gone to work, town, a picnic ect and you loss your only key. How will you get back home, you cant drive the car, you will not be able to get into the car. Can you inmagine telling the police or some one trying to help that you only had one key and you have lost it. You know how stupid you will look or even feel. In my case I live in the Caribbean and most Folks here feel you should buy either a nissan or toyota. You know how stupid i would look and feel telling some one i bought a car with only one key and lost it, then trying to explain that I need a special master key to which i dont have to solve the problem. They would say you dont get that problem with the japs. I have been trying to defend my self to why i bought a fiat, which most people here feel gives lots of trouble. There are not a lot of fiat here either. In fact the only model i see here is the punto.

Well that puts a differant perspective on it.

If thats your only choice, then do it or loosing your key will turn your car into a ton of scrap metal. Or at least you will have no car untill you manage to source a new ecu, locks, etc.

If you lost your only key here in the UK it would cost you a couple of hundred pound to get it going again, or maybe around £100 to £150 for second hand parts, you will have added aggravation and time added to this as you are over there.

I would look for a place capable of cloning your key, if your on one of the smaller islands I guess this is unlikely. Your suggestion does seem the only way of doing it without too much expense or trouble.

re

who read the bit on the bbc about the RAC man who started a womans car by putting her dog on the drivers seat after it ate the transpinder from her keyfob when she changed the battery!
