Hiya mate
Just to let you know on the basis of a pretty hench first post I put on here about three weeks ago, a mate of mine and me spent most of saturday with a printout of your advice, some tools (best of which was my own addition of a wire coat hanger!!) and a bucket full of patience
all started well - purchased a pheonix gold replacement sub for my shot Vibe, and the headunit transferred via ISO so no loom required!
bargain
the problems occurred when trying to poke the wires from the back of the Xplod7500 down to the pasenger side
it helped to tape the rca leads and the remote wire for the amp to the end of the now un-done coathanger and poke it through
all was going swimmingly
we removed the passneger trim and hid all the wires and went under tha plastic below the rear seats to the leave the wires poking cunningly into the boot
Our problems occurred with the power cable to the amp. We found on the passenger side a little rubber gromit which we removed.
We poked the cable down in and 4m disappeared!!
it seemed to be down the passenger A post in the door (so it was called i learned!)
The wire didn't appear for love nor money
out came the faithful coathanger again for that to be routled about for about 45 mins trying to locate a possible exit route
it was a nightmare
That was until we found that the gromit we'd removed was in fact the wrong one!!! (this was 1 and a half hours of back breaking gymnastics trying to feel for the wire until this was discovered whilst packing yourself into a 2 and a half square foot passenger well) so anyone else struggling make sure you use the OVAL gromitjust behind the engine facing you not the little circular one on the right near the hinge of the bonnet where we were trying!!
but all is well now and is working great
just need to hook the sub up tonight when i get home
can't wait fo rthat lil beauty
also managed to find some speakers for the front -the Xpold 3 way 16.5mm were the only ones I could find to fit it (the guy at the shop tried 6 differnt varieties but all were too deep and the vibe's I'd bought were 17cm not 16.5)
so all in all a long experience so I hope this may help anyone trying to do this and prevent them getting skinned wrists and arms!!
but thanks for your post - helped no end and i now know all about ice installs in a 2000 Punto
not sure whether to bother with another amp and some 6x9s on the shelf
would i need anything to prevent it draining the battery or will two amps be ok?
Cheers again
M
