Hi guys,

I'm looking at upgrading the sounds in the car but as I know absolutely nothing about ICE I could do with some advice please!

I'm looking at upgrading the all the 6x speakers in the car, but also adding a 15" sub. I'm more bothered about decent sound quality and good bass - not bothered about volume.

If anyone could recommend decent speakers/sub and a good amp that will run the lot, that would be great! Also, looking at spending as little as possible, but can afford to pay upto £300 for the lot.

Cheers guys,

Martin

i have some kenwood 600 watt subs for sale and a sub box matey and sum wiring and there all still brand new still in boxes

Dont bother with any Kenwood pap, best bet is to speak to Ash or Tom...they are the two biggest ICE people on here.

Ash did a top job of my install.

if you are interested in SQ over volume, then i'd suggext a 10" or 12" sub is ample. plus, 15" plus box will actually take up half your boot! The amp(s) will take up the rest, lol.

Buy 1 good set of components for the front, nothing in the back and a 10-12" sub.

Ideally run the components from an amp rather than the HU.

As I have 17" alloys, my 15" spare was useless so I sold it. Therefore I have a nice 15" hole to fill (no inuendoes please :)), that was the reason for wanting a 15". I suppose I could go for a 12" and fill around it.... hmm...

Can you recommend some good components and a sub Tom? Also, a decent amp would be good!

Cheers for the info so far guys,

Martin

get ure self some focal componets and a jbl amp and sub but to be honest id get a 10" for clarity they still hold a deep tone but dont distort personaly id save some mor money until you get about £6-700 and you could get ure self a nice vibe and focal soundsytem or maybe even a cerwin vega sub if you were lucky. unfortunatly mate quality costs but is worth te money when you get it trust me, little things like running power cables down one side and speaker and rca's down the other side can improve tenfold on the quality of ure system when its setup. the best place to look for cheap audio equiptment is WWW.CARAUDIOSECURITY.COM they are about the cheapest on the net and sell top quality products, but dont for the luv of god spend £300 on FLY please please dont you would be wasting ure money cos you could get an SPLx system with the same quality for about £150.

hope that helps bud

Running cables on either side of the car is the oldest and biggest myth out there :)

Most important question, BUDGET.

i`ve got a JVC headunit and i did have a sub and amp before but i sold it to Nick a while back, now ive got 6x9`s 500w speakers at the back and 5x7`s 400w speakers up front and can`t remember what the make is tho but again i wasn`t after volume and tbh it sounds great as the way i want it, i suppose you could run 6x9`s at the back off an amp, depends what system you go for

Bravo, why settle for less 1.8GT BRAVO

go for a alpine head unit
jbl door and rear speakers and tweeters with crossovers and vbe preamped sub save space in the boot and u should be rocking ur socks off and other around u too should get them on ebay all for around £300

Cheers for the advice :)

So when it comes to amps, what 'type' would I need? I.e. I see all these terms like bridgeable, crossover, 2/3/4/5/6 channel, etc but nowhere actually tells me what sort I would need and what functions I would need for one sub, two front components and possibly two rear speakers. Is it one channel per speaker, or one channel per two speakers, does a sub need two channels to run, etc etc. As you can see I'm completely new to this! lol!
Also, would you recommend replacing the speakers on the dash, or getting rid?

As for spending top dollar, I'm looking at spending as little as possible for the best quality as my money is tied up in other future ideas at the minute :)

Thanks again,

Martin

To get a decent sound, you will need to spend a reasonable amount of money.

My install consists of...

Alpine CDA9854Ri Head Unit
Alpine SPR-17LS Front Components
JBL GTO400 amp - runs front components
JBL GTO 75.2 amp - runs sub
JBL 12" sub of some sort in a ported box

Including everything, that little lot cost me about £600, but that was all the cabling, splitters...the lot.

If you're on a tight budget don't bother with rear speakers. They are not needed.

Actually, don't bother with them full stop :)
