Are the Multiplas really that bad?

I was thinking about getting one in a month or two (probably a W reg, 50k miles, 1.6 SX or similar) so I did a quick Google and found this forum.

The trouble is all I've read in the past half an hour is problems. Are they really that bad or have some owners just been unlucky?

I owned a Ford Ka for 2 years and a Focus for 2 years and never had a single problem with either of them yet when I used to post on the owners club forums you'd be forgiven for thinking that they're always breaking down. :D I guess that's the nature of forums, not many people will post saying what a wonderful week they've had with no problems whatsoever. (y)

So I shouldn't be put off from buying one? ;)
I love the looks especially the interior and obviously the practicality but I don't want to end up with a car that's prone to conking out every winter.

Go for a JTD if your budget will allow.

I'm keeping an eye on this one on eBay. I won't be bidding on it as I don't want one just yet but it'll be interesting to see what it goes for. I always thought Multiplas came out on a 2000 W reg but this one is a V.

people seem to find it easier to complain than to praise. No car is ever perfect always goin to be a few lemons out there. :D

Yeah it's just a shame it's up for sale now when I'm not in the position to buy one.
Not to worry, I'm sure a similar one will be up for grabs in a month or two when I have the cash in my pocket.

Seven days ago my wife would not have been seen dead in a Multipla. We bought ours on Thursday for £1995. It's a 'Y' reg with 138,000 miles behind it and full service history. It returns 45+mpg on diesel. It's a 110 elx jtd and apart from a drop link that rattles it runs like a dream. Believe it or not at that mileage it is still on the original clutch. I say go for it Phil.

Well I'm still very tempted but they do seem to be quite rare - I've seen one in two days and I do a fair bit of driving in my job.

Even the ones in Auto Trader and eBay are the best part of 100 miles away from me.

I went from Home to Nr Grantham for my Tipo. 163miles. Home to Boston for my Marea. Another 163 miles. Home to Telford for Bunny's Bravo.. 200 miles.

And the biggie.. Home to Portsmouth for my First Marea. That's 319 miles each way!

That was a 1.9 JTD and has a lot of hardware shared with the Multipla. Remember Fiat almost invented the concept of the cross-platform design, although there are not many Multipli there are plenty of other vehicles doing hundreds of thousands of miles on the same suspension, engine and electronics.

Be not afraid of the Ugly Bug. (y)

i spent nearly 18 months looking for the right uno turbo, criss crossing london time and again looking at rusty sheds, rattley nails, and death traps on wheels, till the right one at the right price came up in leicester

takes time, but there is always the right one out there...(y)

Just thought id say what a great week we have had with our multi its had no poblems at all for ages now. Went straight thru its MOT. a week or so ago.
Been to Yorkshire and back today, regular trip usually in Alfa but got home tonight and thought what great cars these things are!!
Go for it,get one bought have something with a bit of character.

I've seen a nice one locally, 02 reg ELX with highish mileage (63,000) for £4595 which sounds pretty good. Trouble is I'm not in a position to buy just yet. (n)

One thing I am interested to know after I read it on here is can you deactivate the front airbag on all models? That would come in handy just incase the double buggy doesn't fit in the boot as I could put one baby seat up front and one in the back.
