Hi guys,

Need some advice. I'm the kind of guy who is very "DIY" with my car.
Seen today a 12" sub box+speaker going cheap so I got it.

Now my question is, what is the best way to connect this up? In my car at the moment I have 2 rear and 2 front speakers all feeding in to my CD-Tuner.
What will I need to wire to an amp? Do I need 2 or 4 channel? HELP!!! lol

Hi,

Right first off you'll need to get an amp that matches the speaker that you have bought i.e the power rating that the sub can handle and that the amp can provide. second off you need to establish if you have any pre-outs on the head unit. This can usually be found out by either taking the head unit out and looking on the back of it for two RCA outputs which are coloured red and white. Otherwise if thats to much like hard work go and find the model and manufacturer of the unit and have a rumage around the internet. From this i'll give you more info later as it is alot of ways oif doing this based upon what you actually have to begin with.

Hope this helps get back to me

Right ok,

Assuming that your head unit has a amp out function you will need the following if not you may need to buy a low pass filer to filter out all hte high frequencies that teh sub doesn't like.

You will need to find out if that 500watts is (RMS) proper watts or (Maximum Power Output or MPO)i.e argos watts. Then get an amp with the corresponding RMS value and impedance value (this is measured in ohms) a sinlge channel amp will do the job try geting it from www.caraudiodirect.co.uk

Then you'll also need a set of phono (RCA) leads to take the low level line out to the back of the car or where ever your likely to put the sub. Make sure that you run these down the seperate side to the power on the car otherwise you will pick up a really annoying hum.

You will also need a SEPERATE power lead running the full length of the car from the battery to the amp and from hte amp you will need a negative which ca be taken to any where in hte car so long as there's a good connection ot the cars main boddy (i'd advise using a large screw and screwing it into the sub frame of the car.

It is NOT advisable that you use the cars current wiring system as you'll proberbly end up setting your car on fire !!!!

plug all this in and it SHOULD work
