Hello thegreenbeast and welcome to the forum!

All requests for parts must now be posted as Wanted adverts, under the forum rules. Go to https://www.fiatforum.com/classifieds/uploadproduct.php to place an ad. You can also see the parts wanted (and parts for sale) in the list on the right side of the main Uno forum page.

As you're new here, I'll leave this thread until you have had a chance to respond.

Others, please be aware that threads asking for parts (or advertising parts for sale) will be deleted and you will receive a friendly reminder via private message ;)

rawill - I think it depends on how much of a discussion is necessary. In the case of the recent thermostat thread (for the Uno Turbo Mk2), that was more of a 'does this fit' question than a simple 'wanted' ad. But yes, technically any response that constitutes an advertisement is not allowed. So if in doubt - send a private message to the original poster - it's quick and easy.

thegreenbeast - you're welcome, hope we can help in some other way! I promise you, I don't make the rules  It's just that we must conform to the forum-wide guidelines and your post was reported to me. Anyone is free to report any post that they feel is outside any of the rules, and it is my job to do something about it.

Best of luck with your wanted ad! :)

In other words;
threads like "Oh.. X is broken, where can I get one?" ... "you can get it at such and such a place" is ok...

whereas..

"I have many parts for sale at my Fiat Uno shop, just visit this website or PM to buy something" would not be ok.

Yes, that's right. :)

Please see rules at https://www.fiatforum.com/rules.html

Any advertisment not specifically directed to anyone will just get deleted straight away. Especially when the poster has a low post count and is clearly not a 'true' forum member (in which case, they will most likely get 'banned' while I am at it).

The only slight problem is that the rules don't define what 'advertising' is.

If you or I suggest where to buy something in the middle of a genuinely-intended-to-be-helpful post, then I believe that's not advertising. It's a recommendation. I realise the system might be open to abuse, but (as with many things in life) I think we need to allow this discretion.

So - in summary...

1. If your post is directed to one particular person (such as a reply on a thread), then it's OK to advise of something for sale or something wanted. As in, "I have one of those, PM me." Then wait for their message. Send a private message ONLY if that person could reasonably expect to receive a message from you.

2. If your post is of general interest and not directed to one particular person, and is either advertising something for sale or requesting an item, it needs to be placed as a classified ad. (y)

3. There is a whole 'Auction Watch' section intended for a third category of 'advertisement' - where you just want to share something you've found on eBay.

4. I intend to apply that discretion I mentioned a moment ago to any general-audience post, from an actual forum member, that does not fit any of the three categories above.

A hypothetical example: suppose Chas starts a new thread to report a mint-condition Uno for sale on the side of the road in Watford. Clearly, this is not 1) because it is not a reply to a thread and not directed to any one person, it is not 2) because it's not Chas that's selling the Uno (you cannot place a classified ad on behalf), and it is not 3) because the Uno for sale isn't on eBay. I feel we need to allow such posts, because they are interesting and potentially very helpful.

I think I should make this a sticky soon. All comments appreciated. :)

It wouldn't hurt to do that.

On a side issue, the trade me message boards are real strict.

I got in real trouble there trying to help a guy set up his satellite dish. I wasn't advertising anything, just suggested he check my profile. When he went there he could figure out how to contact me, which trade me frown on.

Anyway I got my profile deleted,(n) all for trying to help a guy work stuff out.
