Hello likewise fiat heads...

Today just picked up my emaculate 26,000miles on the clock mk1 uno (yep its genuine, belonged to an old village lady who looked after it like her own child and used it only to go to the village shop and put back into her garage), not a rust in sight, underside clean as a freshly washed turnip...

Have been looking for a mint uno as i have a rusted old Mk1 uno turbo with a good engine... so now i have the shell, work can finally commence.
bloody exited... and... bloody scared of the job too, but will be worth it once its put together...

Im gonna put 24 inch spinner rims and a big up spoiler and paint it gold with flames running down the sides..... NO... dont fret..

Original.. is the way to go.. Mk1 uno turbos are rare so id like to keep it as standard as poss but with subtle mods..
Real classy...... I love the original Mk1 uno turbo look.. Im sure you guys know what i mean..

Except for a few who think big is the way to go..
Let me tell you big guys and girls something..... NO!.. only joking.. each to their own, i say...

Anyhows enough ramblings... here are some pics:

Also im looking for a pair of original Mk1 uno turbo front seats
(as i only have the driver side and its a bit tattered)
And the original plastic wheel arches
(as i only have one, front driver side)

Any advice into what im getting myself into or any probs i may find along my jouney will be greatly appreciated....

Cheers

That was a good find indeed ..sadly many of them are badly affected with the dreaded tin worm ..but that looks a good un (y)

Well done looks mint! Just pick up a nice 1984 uno myself today with only 23k on the clock! Iam in the process of restoring my uno turbo and with such alot of work to be done to the bodywork iam thinking about using the shell from todays purchase!

Only thing is how do i change the chasis no. to the original uno turbo if i use a shell from a different year and model?

Good luck with the project!!

You can't. You re-shell your turbo into the 55S and then re-register the 55S as a Uno turbo. That would also confuse everyone because your 55S is a 1984 car and the UT wasn't released until 1985!

Biggest problem with the Uno and re-shelling is that the chassis number is stamped onto the driver's side inner wing next to the suspension turret. However, they often rust there so if it were cut out and a small plate welded in then who would know what the original chassis number was?... ;)

But do bear in mind that if you do that then you are in effect 'ringing' the vehicle, a highly illegal practice of swapping over identities. If you do it, don't say anything and keep quiet - no-one will be any the wiser!

Cheers!! i did think it would be a tricky thing to do, its just the shell of the uno 55s is mint so i got it in to my head to do a re-shell! It would be a shame as well to break the 55s, as i drove 50 miles in it today and it didnt miss a beat!! I even got 80mph out of it on the motorway with no worries!!

cheers guys....

I drove mine 100 miles today and I also got mine to 80mph, but the speedo cable broke when i hit 83mph and had to drive the rest without it..

Hi, and welcome to the forum:)

I think I'm going to do almost the same (thinking about all the work) I'm going to disassemble my 1984 Uno SX, and the rebuild it. Fix all the bodywork, and maybe rebuild my engine, and rebuild my gearbox, because my reverse gear is no longer exists:(, and the rest of the gears are not in a very good condition either:bang:

but anyway, good luck with your project(y)

let us know how it goes;)

my father got his Uno 45 1,0 fire up to 90 mph, but that was as fast as if would go
