under the bonnet....
Hello,

I've had the angel eyes since my birthday but not quite worked out how to adjust the dipped beam, cause at the moment it's point quite down to the road whereas it should I think straight not down to the road cause you can see where it's hitting on the bottom line of the headlight. I see cogs on each bit one for full beam and dipped beam, but I've tried messing with them but nothing? So if anyone has the angel eyes or knows how to manually adjust the beam heights could tell me how to do it I'd appreciate it :)

Thanks in advance! (y)

If you take the protuding black box (four screws) off the back of the headlights there's a little hexi-shaped bolt that you can twist one way or the other to adjust it. Bare in mind though that they're notoriously low and poor for vision though, I've had similar problems before

Thanks for the that :) As long as I can raise the beams up a bit I'd be happy with that, angel eyes are merely just for show or to make the car look better than bog standard so to make the car look good you have to compromise something :p

Do they work with the motorised Adjuster in the car?

And i would have thought it'd be like the Bumper fogs on the mk2b
There is a set of bolt which dictate where the lights face

I believe the angels don't have the motors fitted to them, well mine don't that's for sure but I think I read somewhere on the net you can take the motors of the factory lights and put them on the angels, so you can then adjust the beams with the motors instead of doing it manual which is a ballache to do for the passenger side one :bang:

That switch is to adjust depending on your load

If you cant adjust it - to prevent dazzaling people its better to leave them pointing down
So if you do have Dead fred in the boot - you wont dazzle people as you drive past

Just remember to put something to mop up the blood, people do tend to get suspicious when there is blood dribbles from somewhere....

Haha, isn't it best to raise the beam slightly up for slightly better vision? Or do I just need better bulbs :p

With Dead fred in the boot - the rear sits lower and makes the lights point up ""higher""

I find it very very annoying when people load the car up + people in the car - drive through the night, and they've got Blinding headlights - while killing a few star struck pidgeons too!

maybe it should be a test to know how to adjust the freaking lights....

Rough guide
0 - is just driver and a few bags in the car
1 - is 2 - 3 passengers
2 - 3/4 people / 2 to 3 people with luggage
3 - Boot full - 4 people in car (while revving the hell out the engine)

Maybe you could take dead fred for a drive? :p

Well least I know now what those settings are, never really checked out what the use was. Yes I know I should of read the handbook. But come on who reads the handbook these days when you buy a car you wanna drive it not sit there and read a book ;)

I'll mess with the adjusters tomorrow on the headlights :)

I read them... -- but that's because I also used to write the damn' things (for IT software and hardware) for a living...! :p

Anyhoo: I have the same problem as you... -- new angel eyes; and the left one is a tad droopy. As the Haynes manual just tells you to go and pay someone to sort them, I too shall be "messing with the adjusters" over the weekend.... (What gets me, though, is that it passed its MOT like this....)

However, I'm then tempted to get my local garage to check that I'm not blinding anyone. On the (unlit) country lanes round here, there are already too many oiks lighting up the trees.... :(

PS: Just found this link. May help.... And this one! (y)

Cheers for the links (y) Strange I thought if beams were too low it's a straight fail? I'm only gonna raise the beams a tad so it's straight ahead and not downwards....Just not looking forward to passenger side one, that's just a huge royal pain in the butt to fiddle around with :(

And the only time I actually looked at the handbook is when I wanted to know the fuse layout :p

Once I've done the adjustment I might just do the same as you and take it into a garage and ask them if I'm blinding anyone

You'll probably find the garage won't have thought to check them if they've not noticed they're not standard.

Fwiw (bit late now) when fitting them you should have drawn where your current headlights were aiming onto a wall/garage in front so that you knew where to align them to afterwards. I found that the little nozzles on the back were good for adjusting it so far but after a while didn't seem to adjust it further. I've got some Osram Nightbreaker bulbs in to help with the lighting a bit too.

The two silver bits at the top, I just used some thin pliers to rotate them as much as they would to adjust it, and you can see the protuding black cover I'm on about.

Those silver bits that look like cogs, are they to adjust the beams or align the beams? These Osram Nightbreaker bulbs are they the ones I'm seeing quite often on the roads at the moment that have like a slight tint of light blue ish and very bright?

Not too sure myself, I just twisted them whichever way to get them to line up to the marker pen I'd scribbled over the front of the garage where the old headlights lined up :p

The nightbreakers are bright bulbs, white-ish but I don't think they're what you're referring to, they're probably HID lights you're thinking of that you'll mostly see on newer Audi's, Bmw's etc...

You can get Normal healights that Look a little bit blue
but tbh it means your spending money on bulbs for little effect

Get some pure white lights - get the aim set correctly and hope it helps

Ring have released a series of super bright bulbs, so we'll have to see how work if i pop a bulb anytime soon

Cheers guys, I finally got the aim of my headlights correctly after a lot of fiddling around. Just need bright bulbs now might look into nightbreakers or the Ring ones as you suggested Ziggy. Have you got them on your car?

No idea what i have in my car atm
I havent checked to even see what type of bulbs they are for the mk2b....

Well any suggestions on good bright bulbs that'll help me see more at night, yeah the bulbs that came with the angels are relatively bright but not bright enough for my liking and don't a long way down the road.
