I have the same problem with my car, I use autoglym interior shampoo. Works a treat on my cloth covered door cards.

Iv tried upholstery cleaner but it just makes it worse

I think one of my friend had same problem last month. I believe he had used magic eraser. Let me ask him more on this and post here soon.
