I've just got a 2011 twinair, no experience of them in the past except hearing a couple parking and that strange exhaust note. Mine I can only describe as sounding like a mini Ferrari when accelerating. I'm getting 50 to the gallon and it's running like a dream. My mate reckons it sounds more like the exhaust is blowing. It was only mot'd 2 days ago so I'm thinking it's meant to sound like that. Just how noisy is yours?

Sounds absolutely perfectly normal to me. Our TA sounds exactly the same and it's less than two years old. The first time we ever heard the exhaust note for real on a TA, was when we picked ours up from the Fiat dealership. We hadn't even taken a TA for a test drive, so you can imagine what a different note it had compared to our previous 1.2 POP.

it gets noisy (compared to my old 1.2 and my existing abarth) at speeds above 120km/h
A little bit too noisy in my opinion.

I had a few time the plan to buy a Twin Air but decided against it every time i had did the testdrive.
For some reason i don't like the engine and how it behave when driving it.
The Restyle 500 will keep the 1.2 ltr engine, so that is a good thing IMHO.

Yeah me too now. Had to put it in eco mode yesterday. Was sucking fumes and thought I had enough to get to work and then back to a petrol station. Got to work, and realised I had left my locker key at home, so had to drive back home and then back to work on Eco mode. Went out during the afternoon to fill up, off came that eco button and I caned it!!!

Our TA is a wonderful relaxed motorway cruiser. Quiet, smooth, powerful.
An absolute dream, and the sound that engine makes when you floor the throttle is superb! :)

Don't tell anyone, but I've had ours up to an indicated 100mph ........................... and it was reasonably quiet with hardly any wind noise.

Regards,
Mick.

Whats your usual motorway cruising speed Mick F. The 5th gear is quite tall IIRC from our test drive, so prob wouldn't like 56mph, so what's a good speed, with good economy.

Good question.
Yes, all the gears are tall ............ except first and reverse that are too low IMHO. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th being tall doesn't seem to matter. The car loves the tall gears.

We don't go up the motorway very often. Last trip of any real consequence was up to Derby for a CTC Forum meeting. I met up with the moderators and the CTC management team. (completely different subject!)

The trip there gave 53mpg and back gave 51mpg. I was doing a steady 70mph but occasionally getting to 80.

I have found over the years of living here in Cornwall that driving back and forth Up North (we're originally from Lancashire) we've always had better economy going north than coming south. It's either to do with the profile of the SW hills, or the Cornish petrol is better then Up North petrol. :)

Mrs Mick F's mum and dad were in poor health at the end, and we frequently drove Up North, but these days it's not a journey we do much at all. Nearest motorway is over 50miles from here.

These days, we have the 500TA of course and we drive to east to Exeter or west down to Truro or somewhere, and the A30 is a good road for blasting along on. Hills of course over Bodmin Moor, and the economy suffers, but we do tend to find that 50+mpg is achievable even at 70+mph.

Locally, "social domestic and pleasure", returns the low 40mpg. We don't commute and maybe do 4,500miles per year, but it's hard driving here. Hills are everywhere and there's nowhere flat at all.

Best thing though, is that a 500TA has zero VED. :)

Regards,
Mick.
