General how many modded FIAT 500 and why?

Not yet Rob, but in a few years time it will be completely unique and I will have to find a new way to work that doesn't involve speed bumps.

Punto Wheels - Cos I'm a cheapskate
Black side rubbing strips - Cos I'm a Cheapskate
Round polished stainless Tail pipe (home made) -Oh yes- cos I'm a cheapskate.:D

Induction kit & Remap - Mostly opportunistic (by which I mean the chance to do so fell in my lap for which I was grateful) and also generally an interesting idea that I was technically curious about. Made a huge difference in the grin factor and a fair gain in power/torque.

30mm lowering springs - At the time I needed to do something to stop her rolling around and it was very early days in the 500 story here so there wasn't a coilover set. Looking to go coilovers in the not too distant future

Brakes - So far used Red Dot pads with standard discs. They were better but, not entirely unexpectedly, they chewed through discs faster. At the moment I'm wearing EBC slotted dimpled discs with GreenStuff pads. Next step is braided stainless steel hoses with Ferodo 2500 pads. Then after that I've got something truly special in mind for the braking :)

Team Dynamic Pro Race 2 15" alloys
- These are track day only toys. I bolt them on with a set of Toyo R888's for track and 'ring playing. The grip is insane.

Quaife ATB limited slip diff from the group buy - This baby is being installed in the new gearbox next week/week after and then popped in the car in time for the ring

OMP upper and lower strut brace - I've got these on order now. I'm curious about the effects. I've heard both good and bad and I think the best way to figure it out is to take the plunge and give it a go. If it's crap, well, it's crap and it was only about £100. If it's good though, then bonus, it was only about £100 :)

OMP subframe and 4 point harness - The subframe sits on the floor and bolts in place to give you a flat surface to mount a race seat. When I put the race set in I realised I was looking at the steering wheel, not out the window. Oops. So I had to do some fiddling with thick walled high grade alloy square tube and lots o' spacers to spread the load and make it all work. The end result:

Next up, if I go down that path is engine work. Heads, ported polished, gas flowed etc, more entertaining cams and a decent exhaust manifold, sports cat and exhaust. 140bhp is the goal if I go down that path.

Nice! But you should remove the leather interior, save weight........then I can buy it lol

I need to get some new springs on ours, I find the bounce a bit disconcerting at times.

Panel filter - 'cos I was given it :D

Coilover suspension - 'cos I was given it :D

17" Compomotives - 'cos someone virtually gave them away

Brembo drilled discs and EBC Greenstuff pads (to be fitted before the 'ring in September) - 'cos I might need to stop in a hurry

No real plans to do much more to it at this stage as I realy need to get my Cinq Sporting Track Car and Cinq Abarth Turbo back on the track/road

I did that at Nurburgring last time:

But I put it back in again. She's my daily driver as well as occassional track toy. :)

Oh Yes I forgot - OMP lower front strut brace - cos i didn't like the body roll:D

Didn't bother with the upper one because if you look where the strut tops are they already have a nice big box section running between them - the omp upper brace bolts to the car where the bumper joins the front wings i dont think there will be any twist load at this point to worry about.
However the lower one is very effective at killing the body roll - jnoiles - be carefull if you have lowered you car as it knocks about an inch and a half off your ground clearance.(y)

you really think the chassis rails flex that much ...?

I think modern shells are a lot more resistant to chassis flex than cars of old. I remember going for a short drive in a friends Mondeo on a gravel oval back in Australia and when we got out all the seals arounds the lights fittings had moved.

NCAP ratings are a good indication of how stiff and strong the shell is.

Hi Rob - yes i do - if you look under the front end at the subframe where the wish bones are attached, its quite a long reach from the subfame mounts (where your feet are Basically) the only support is from the front cross rail where two quite flimsy sections reach back, these are then bolted to the subframe just where the maximum side load is during cornering - the subframe legs flex in under this load which is why the outer front likes to dip in the corners.
The lower brace calms this down dramatically -all you get is the normal suspension give which isn't as much as you would think actually.
If you look at my mk II punto although the sub frame at the front is similar there is a big section across the car right where the wishbones are attached. They really should have copied this.

cheers Chris

Addtion - Next time your in the nottingham area let me know you can have a look and a drive.
