Basicly, i'm coming to a cross roads, I was planning on changing my car, but with insurance still been stupid, (driving for a year, no crashes and a motorbike, insurance renewal for car looking at £800ish on my punto, which has no power and is worth nothing)

It looks like I may well be keeping my punto for the for-seeable future (Another year atleast)

Anyway, coming to the fact of the matter, it's just hit 140,000 miles, I've done 10,000 in it since August last year when I bought it, I haven't had any problems with it. It just has a small oil leak, which is easily fixable, the £3.50 part jobbie, just getting round to doing it.

At 140,000 it went in for it's MOT 10 days ago, passed with only one advisory, minor corrosion on the break hose. It was coppered up and what not to slow down the effects.
The mechanics said it's in surprisingly good condition and should not have any real problems with it in the future.

But in reality, can the car really do another say, 60k miles till the next set of belt changes, without any major problems, it's had a full service history upto this point, maybe I should trust it more...

So,
Since I rambled abit,
2002, 51plate Punto, 1.2 8v engine, 140,000 miles, well kept, for how much longer will it last?

If as the mechanic suggests, it will last, i'm gonna give it a nice touch up, new bumpers, alloys, etc.

thanks, sorry for the rambling. :bang:

Who knows, but if the engine went you'd only be looking at <200 for an engine + fitting

Full service history, no trouble, flew through the MOT. I'll be sending the men in white coats if you get rid of that, and confiscating the car to cover your aftercare fees :D

It's a mk2, so fully galvanised and won't rust. Those 8v engines are pretty much bulletproof. The only Achilles heel is the head gasket, which is very unlikely to fail if you check your coolant system regularly, and repair if necessary. Your car sounds like an excellent contender for the 200,000 mile club.

Mk2 does rust behind the front seats and just
in front of the rear seats near the inner cill
normal place as the Mk1 so it may need a plate
there at some time.

The cars worth more to you than what you would
sell it for other than insurance it's cheap motoring.

If you had been and still are a named driver on
a parents insurance policy some insurance companies
will allow you the same amount of discount on your
own policy as your parents as long as you remain
with them (First Line). You then build up a proper discount
over a number of years which at that point can be transfered
to any company.

Also having a parent on your own policy as a named
driver may in some cases reduce the cost of your
present policy (like having your wife or partner on the
policy reduces the premium). The good point there is that
they are able to drive your car in an emergency and they are
fully insured.
It's not fronting or illegal as your the main driver and
policy holder.

I've been the main driver on my policy, with both parents as named drivers, so insurance is the best is could possibly be at this point. :(

That sounds good, nice and cheap, like I like it. :D:D

(y)(y) Think i'm gonna pop it down to the garage and get the body work sorted and get the oil leak done, you three have just confirmed what I thought.

Thanks
Gonna get some pics later on and see if anyone can suggest how much repairs maybe,

You may find that your oil leak is little more than your cover gasket. A quick and easy fix. Follow the advice offered elsewhere on this forum and you wont go far wrong.

I have a 97 Ulysse with 142K on the clock and it is barely run in!

Good luck.

Yup, I think that's what it is, gonna try and get it done when the weather improves! :)
