How horrible does the floor have to be before it fails the MOT?

My 500 (1971, LHD) has been off the road (in a dry garage) since late 2005.

It has been decreed (by Mrs. disgusted) that I either have to recommission it, or get rid of it. I suppose that either way I'll need an MOT. After all, the car would be worth loads more if it was on-the-road.

There are a couple of holes in the floor under where one's heels would be when driving.

I know that a new floor panel would be best, but knowing my past experiences of restorations, a quick panel replacement ends up being a 5 figure full rebuild. I'm just not going there.

So, my real question is, should I get my preferred mender to:

1) 'plate' the existing hole?

2) Butcher a new floor panel and just replace the bad section?

3) Put in a complete new floor panel?

What are your experiences/suggestions?

I would say with a fair degree of certainty that in its present state your car will fail the MOT.

Quite honestly, if you patch bits up, it will go somewhere else.

Depends what your intentions are really - whether you just intend to do the car up to the minimum standard to pass the MOT and then flog it, or make it into a useable classic.

If you intend keeping it I would personally opt for the replacement floor pan.

Superficially it looks quite good...
