Thought to myself this morning "If I get to the motorway with a bar still showing I'll get on"
Of course, as I drove down the slip road the final pixel disappeared.
Cue eco button on (even though I don't believe it magically makes the car more efficient) ,flip sunvisor down to glance at the Ciao Fiat sticker and hope for the best

I reset trip A and drove 11.7 miles @ 61mpg (was showing over 72mpg until city driving ruined it as usual)
Worked this out, I'd used 0.86 litres doing that 11.7 miles.

I didn't brim the tank to see how much went in because tomorrow I'll be in a place that's 4p per litre less and I'm a tight ar5e.

Anyone know how much fuel is left in the tank when the gauge drops to zero?

You mean zero zero as in no bars at all? Ive done about 10 miles in that situation, didnt risk anymore! I managed to brim 39 liters the most anyone has put i think is between 41-42 liters so i probably had around 2 liters of petrol left. I only let it go down to one bar!

On my car, just before the second low fuel warning message appears and the Range reading changes to ---.--, the trip computer tells me I've about 33 miles left. I've never pushed it more than about 12 miles beyond that point, though I believe Maxi has acutally run right down to an empty tank.

To be safe, I'd suggest to anyone that they refuel at the next available opportunity once they've lost the range indication on the trip computer. Pushing it beyond that might lead to, er, pushing it.

Knowing you jr you would go on for 100 more miles with the fuel light on before you ran out!

I see in that thread I had a nice argument with jrkitching :p

Obviously it's up to the individual as to whether they want to brim their tank or not :)

I got to Zero Bars about 4 miles from home today (Was heading for a cheap local station 1.269 a Litre).

Zero Bars on Dashboard but ECU feedback still showed 6.8% Fuel Remaining on my Dash PC. When I filled up I squeezed exactly 35 Litres in (Have managed 38 before) when I have really pushed it to the limit

SO at 7% Left I would say at least 2 or 3 litres to play with..

I could have driven another 13 to 26 miles then.

On our boats at work we have fuel used meter. We put in exactly the same as the meter says and brim the tanks. Its spot on. Why don't car manufacturers do that?
We would all know exactly when we are empty.

I suppose they build in vagueness to stop the likes of me pushing the boundaries.
At least I know for sure that I have at least nearly a litre when the chunks disappear.

Vagueness on the side of conservative as with everything

Fuel gauge reads empty yet ECU reports 7-8% left,
Speedo reads 30mph yet ECU reads 27mph (So the correct data is in there)

Seems like they don't want the car to give us the exact figures ever just in case its wrong!

And the only time I ever ran out, I got to Zero bars as I pulled into the NEC, then drove from the NEC into central Birmingham, had lunch then out of Birmingham and onto the A38 and ran out! (Serves me right for looking for a cheaper station). On that occasion I did 32 miles from where it hit Zero bars to where it died, some A Roads and some in town, Vowed never to push it close like that again, Nothing like a walk up the A38 for fuel to make you feel like a twonk!
